Illusory, the Patriarch

Illusory grew up in a large, ancient clan, filled with pearlcatchers that traced their lineage to the first of their kind. He had views about how things should be run, but was destined to remain on the sidelines while established families influenced clan politics. Eventually, he set off on his own to found Clan Daybreak with Mire.

While time and experience have have mellowed him, Illusory is still has something of an attitude. He enjoys the new status provided from the rise of his clan and has used the power to give old rivals a piece of his mind without fear of reprisal.

Illusory and Mire have five children who still reside in the clan: Sage, Efflorescence, Vigil, Whimsy, and Harbinger. Illusory has also mated with Grim to produce Watcher. Vinea, Winter, and Aidos are his grandchildren.

He was perched on a crumbled pillar, seething with resentment, when the tundra approached him him.

"What's wrong?" she said, peering out from beneath her cowl. Her green fur was shiny in the way oily swamp muck was shiny, and her body was laden with supplies purchased from the market.

Illusory had never seen her in his life, but she had ears, and that was enough for him to start ranting. "Oh, nothing at all, according to Aurelia," he said, flaring his crest sarcastically. "Sending an enormous amount of wealth to an allied clan to promote 'good relations' is an excellent idea. A precise strategic maneuver! Now, you might think that there would be no need to spend money to secure the loyalty of a clan headed by Aurelia's own son, but, oh, you'd be wrong! Lightweaver forbid his clan suffers the slightest inconvenience from its leader's stupidity."

By the time Illusory was finished, the sun was touching the horizon. The tundra stayed. She sat on her haunches, listening to the last sputters of his wrath.

"I'm not sure why I even bother." Illusory sighed. As his anger faded, it was replaced with a growing sense of embarrassment. He had taken up too much of an absolute strangers' time.

She cocked her head to the side. Throughout the entire rant, her attention hadn't flagged."Then leave."

"W-what?"

"Make your own clan," she said simply.

"Uh. Well." Illusory rubbed the back of his neck with a claw. "I guess I could do that. But I don't know where I'd start. I don't have a mate...."

"I can be your mate."

"Are you serious?" Illusory scrutinized her face, searching for an indication that it was a joke. "We just met. I don't even know your name."

The tundra smiled patiently. "My name is Mire. "

"...Illusory."

"Illusory. Meet me here again, and I will show you a place where we will build a clan."

He did. And they did.
