Persimmon

Persimmon's first choice was definitely not to stay within her clan.

No, she had decided from an early age that she'd rather head out into the world and explore, and find her home in a new clan. But for some reason, something held her back. As the weeks passed, she flitted about indecisively. Stay, or go?
In the end, looking into all those deep green eyes all about her, each one ready to accept whatever choice she made, Pers chose to stay. There were just... so many things that could go wrong, if she left. What if she ended up in some clan that she detested? What if she never felt like she could fit in? She does not like stories of wanderers- it has always been her dream to end up somewhere she loved, surrounded by dragons who loved her in return. It's only when on the verge of deciding to leave, that she has discovered she has had this all along.

So she remains. Pers is a somewhat skittish dragon. She loves to flit through the trees, racing her shadow. She also loves to hang upside down from branches and spook the quieter dragons who may walk past. Sometimes she may stop and look wistfully into the distance, and wonder what might have been...
but then she will share a look, or a laugh, with one of her clanmembers, and remembers that, she is home.

She had early on found company in Ceifar, an enormous Ridgeback dragon. Ceifar had been a traveller, and Pers delighted in his tales. She would hang from his nose (for it made the most excellent perch) and listen all day long to his adventures, until his throat would turn hoarse and dry.
That they took each other as mates was something of a surprise to the rest of the clan. The red Fae, after all, was almost invisible next to her mate, completely dwarfed in size despite being rather large for a Fae. Still, no one could deny they enjoyed each others company. The two were inseparable for a good many years.

Eventually, though, the size difference became too great. There were language difficulties too, for it was hard for the Ridgeback to see let alone interpret the Fae's body language. There were subtle things, like how Ceifar told a joke in his customary way, and yet Persimmon never laughed out loud (instead wriggling her crests up and down in a rhythmic motion). And Persimmon grew tired of yelling so her partner could hear her, or at how she could never really be held by him. Not in a way that made her feel they were equal (being held in someone's entire paw is somewhat humiliating, Pers felt). She had once loved her Ceifar with all her heart, but she knew they had lost their spark.

Breaking their bond was the hardest thing Pers had had to do in her life: harder even than her initial tough choice to stay with Madrigal's clan. The pair made the split, though, with heavy hearts. Persimmon was lost. She had spent so long wandering the jungle perched on Ceifar's nose, or nestled between his spines. She was well-liked in the clan, but had no special friends to console her or get her back on track. And the worst of all was how quickly Ceifar re partnered: a pretty Snapper lady named Glim had moved in, and connected with Pers' ex-mate almost immediately. Persimmon knew then that she could never go back. This was no temporary thing: her old way of life was over.

And so she decided to start again. Persimmon would change everything but her name: her opportunity has now come for a new life, and she is once again excited and looking forward to what it may bring.
