Much like his mate Umbra, Ikelos was born one species (a Guardian, in this case) and turned into another. Unlike his mate, his change came as an adult rather than as a hatchling-- he was out in the Woodland Path on the winter solstice and was beset by a group of Painted Marionettes, one of which joined him after he was changed into a Nocturne by the mysterious scroll the group had with them.

The change from having an insatiable desire to guard others to the need to mimic others has been hard on him, but his mate understands and has done her best to help him with it. The result of this is a Guardian-turned-Nocturne mirroring the mannerisms of his charge-turned-mate, a Coatl-turned-Skydancer who still prefers to speak the Coatl language over draconic. The necklace he wears is a reminder of the traits he held in his past form so he never forgets his true personality.
