Biography
Silent Stranger
A quiet dragon from the Molten Scar, Sombra was born into a clan of Imperial dragons. He first encountered other species when he saw Calypso and Zhelty fighting alongside Rhodas in the Scorched Forest. He tracked them as far as the Starwood Strand, where he was intercepted by Aered. When Sombra did not back off, the massive Guardian easily knocked him down with a blunt swat of her paw. The combination of seeing stars from the blow and the starry effect of the Strand at nightfall fascinated Sombra, and he swallowed his pride long enough to ask Aered if he could meet her clan. She agreed on the condition that he cause no trouble, and after a bit of wariness on both sides Sombra was allowed to join Stelaris Clan. He speaks to no one, but he is strong and skilled, both highly appreciated traits in this clan. Sombra has developed a slight rivalry with Winter, and has not forgotten how easily Aered knocked him flat when they first met. Revenge isn't exactly what he has in mind, but he would certainly like to return the favor sometime, if only to prove to himself that he is stronger than he was.
Much to everyone else's surprise, he has adopted a protective tone toward the Pearlcatcher Ruby, despite the usual animosity between their kind. Perhaps it's because Sombra has not met any dragons except Imperials before coming to the Clan of the Southern Star, or just his natural defiance. Whatever the reason, they seem to get along quite well.
Even more surprising, Sombra seems to have a soft spot for hatchlings. He doesn't exactly seek them out, but he has been known to sit patiently for hours while the little things tumble around and use him as a climbing rock. Occasionally, if they insist, he'll join their games, and the sight of the large Imperial gently poking the babies, his eyes narrowed in fierce concentration as he tries to restrain his strength, is both sweet and hilarious.
Sombra's skill and strength have increased greatly since he joined the clan, though his social skills have not. He still keeps to himself most of the time, avoiding the other dragons whenever possible, unless he's looking for a sparring partner. However, he doesn't entirely avoid the company of others anymore. As long as his companion respects his habitual silence, Sombra is content to keep them company. Aered noticed this change in behavior started shortly after Ruby's first nest hatched and left her too busy to spend time with him. The Guardian knows Sombra's prickly temper too well to bring it up to him, but she suspects the Imperial is lonely.
Sombra has recently started avoiding the lair, throwing himself into his training and returning home only long enough to drop off items he found and sleep off his injuries.
He sided with the rebels during the Twenty-Fourth Arcane Hunger Games. No one in knows why, and Sombra won't say. It shocked everyone when he confronted Aya, his long-time partner, to defend the rebellions tributes. But Aya understood. Sombra has faced the Arena many times, and he does not fear death. But for the sake of the hatchlings, the ones he defended each time he entered the ring, he will fight.
AHG Participant in Games 3, 19, and 30, Third Place in the 3rd Game, Rebel during the Rebellion.
