A Nice Guy When You Get to Know Him

“I used to be an adventurer, until I took an arrow to the wing!”

If you’ve heard one of Merlyn’s stories, you’ve heard them all before. This old-timer Guardian can be found in Rubyshimmer’s tavern no matter the time of day, drinking until closing time. He loves to tell stories about the good old days, when he a real adventurer getting into all sorts of strange situations.

These days, he isn’t up to much. He mostly just likes to corner younger dragons by bribing them with free drinks so they have to listen to his stories. He’s pretty well-known around the clan for spending hours talking people’s ears off. He’s not the most exciting dragon around, but he’s a nice enough fellow.

Back in the day, he really did have some great adventures. He traveled all around the world— from the Frigid Floes to the Shifting Expanse. He was a renowned fighter who sold his skills and saved anyone in trouble. These days, an old battle injury keeps him from traveling anymore. It’s led him to be a little depressed, but he’s trying to work through it and stay cheerful.

When he isn’t talking too much, Merlyn trains younger dragons to be warriors. He can’t fight on the battlefield anymore, but he can still teach a new generation to do what he used to. It’s not perfect, but it’s just enough to keep him content.
