Mila's mother made her nest on top of a rocky outcropping in the desert, and while Mila was still in the egg, the nest was struck by lightning. The nest was burnt, and the mother never returned, but Mila was safe inside the egg. When Mila hatched, it became clear that the lightning had left its mark on her. Merlot found her wandering on the plains as a hatchling, and brought her home to the clan. Although Mila has never known another clan, she felt out of place for a long time. She knew that her lightning-marked body stood out, and she had a hard time making friends. She spent most of her time with Roran, but even so the two never became truly close. When Flint joined the clan, the two of them along with Ong built the clan's first forge. Flint taught Mila the art of forging, and Ong keeps the smithy in good condition and supplied with fuel for the forge. Mila and Flint both have hearing loss from the din of the smithy, and Ong was born deaf. The three of them have become very close, and have developed their own system of sign language for communication. Most of the dragons in the clan have learned some of it, but the three of them use it as their primary communication amongst themselves. Aside from working the smithy together, Mila, Flint, and Ong have built their den together and consider themsleves partners in every sense of the word. Mila takes great pride in her work in the smithy. While Flint does most of the manual labor in hammering out armor plates and weapons, Mila works the finer details. She etches intricate filigree designs into the armor plates, attuning every detail to match the dragon who will wear it. She also creates the leather straps and tailors them to fit each dragon perfectly. She takes great pride in creating a piece that is perfectly suited to the dragon who is to use it. Mila has had a few nests, but has never been very involved with either her own hatchlings or those in the clan. She finds them annoying underfoot, and is always worried she might step or drop something on one of them. However she will often create intricate metalwork pieces as gifts for new parents and their young hatchlings to welcome new lives into the clan. Original: Jade/Shadow/Spring |
