Biography
Hatched Steel/Navy/Jade
Ananke was once a statue, discovered by Tau in the ruins of one of the many old clans that rose and fell around the Rotund. Judging by her refined appearance, the statue was dedicated to a princess or queen. Stricken by her beauty, Tau volunteered her for a mirror vivification experiment when Ljostjar and his team were looking for subjects.
Ananke turned out bright, curious, and surprisingly well-attuned to magic. Soon enough, Ljostjar took her on as an apprentice alongside Goldwisp and Galaeron, whom she quickly overtook in magical proficiency. The three became close friends, though, and often get in trouble together. Secretly, Ananke is fostering a plan to get the two to actually go on a date together.
With a highly logical, intelligent mind, Ananke seems like she always has it together... but she really, really does not. Being, essentially, an artifical magical construct makes her feel the weight of a special kind of expectation: living up to being given the gift of life at all. Her drive to succeed is caused at least partially by that. Though sociable, Ananke has a hard time processing feelings; there always seems to be a wall separating her from others emotionally. She gets self-conscious whenever she doesn't respond to things "properly", fearful of being judged as lacking. She isn't able to tell if it's her personality that is so cold and logical, or an actual flaw in her very construction. She tends to be blunt and literal, and has accidentally hurt many a feeling.
Ananke's worries lead her to search for solace in her past - or, rather, the statue's past. She sometimes wanders around the ruins with Tau, hopeful to find some clue as to where she "comes from". (She's very oblivious to how flustered Tau gets around her; indeed, she is probably aromantic.) She also feels a strange draw towards the Mirrormaker, feeling as if he is familiar, somehow. But the Mirrormaker never speaks, and ignores her completely when she visits him in his worshop. So she just stays there, for hours on end, trying to figure it all out. Leela acts almost like an aunt to her, and when she sees Ananke down in the dumps, she will often invite her over for dinner and a chat.
Though Ananke tries to suppress it, there are days where she feels a growing resentment for Ljostjar, at once her creator and mentor, for who knows if she wouldn't be better off a statue?
---
- being good at magic is probably a direct result of her being a construct
- Is a lot like Ljostjar. As a result of being his creation, and being mentored by him. Has his charisma and leadership skills, in particular.
- has a dry, sarcastic wit
- despite her worries about not being personable, she is well-liked and has a lot of friends. Galaeron, Gosdwisp, Malkisse, Solucia (with whom she feels a lot in common due to the latter being a reflection) and Cuartio often hang out together, and it's all because Ananke is the "glue" holding the group together. She is a good organizer and leader, and quick to intuit out a personal approach to everyone she meets.
- open-minded about people, but not so much as to not have boundaries. Won't give you a second chance, but the first one will be very generous
- Once put Perberry in his place so hard he now runs out the room at the mere mention of her.
- Her favorite magical discipline is illusion magic.
