B I O G R A P H Y

Amarayne was a very young clan when she befriended the dragons of Niharike. In goodwill, Niharike offered the new clan their pick among their hatchlings. The one that they chose was a little guardian, grandson of the leaders of the clan. He was a loner, one with a keen interest in learning how things ended up how they did, eventually refining this curiosity into a passion for detective work. After finding his charge and future partner Hanasama, he pursued his interest in earnest, eventually becoming one of the most successful private investigators in the land.

Early on in his life he had a wicked temper and a habit of speaking his mind without a filter. This lead to him buttin heads with his father Celdricht, something he didn't have time to mature out of before his father was killed by a dragon named Striker in an invasion on Niharike. This devastated the young dragon, who underwent a crisis that involved him changing breeds, siring a single clutch and refusing to have any significant relationships lest he leave a large unresolved hole in someone else's life or gain another one in his. It was many years before he finally allowed himself to open up, and that was only after a lot of help from the imperial Irine.

Irine is Shylock's mate and long-time friend, one of the few who has been able to put up with him for all of these years. It was her enduring patience and her genuine love for him and all he was that finally wore down his defenses, and he loved her long before he would admit it. They love to challenge each other, their verbal sparring matches sometimes getting so heated it sounds as though they're arguing, but those who know them well know the difference. He is very devoted to Irine and his family and would happily give up everything he's worked for if it was for their good.

P E R S O N A L I T Y

Shylock is cold, methodical, and logical on the job. He presents his clients a cool-headed persona and complete dedication to his hired task. Out of the professional world he's quick-tempered, easily flustered and wears his heart on his sleeve. The act is really quite impressive, he's managed to send villains cowering away when he himself was nearly faint with fear. His acting skills have saved his life many times, but they're quite a hindrance in his personal life where wearing a well-practiced mask is more comfortable than letting yourself be laid bare.

He fears leaving a rift unsettled between himself and his children, so he puts a lot of effort into his relationship with them. He always takes time off when a new clutch is born, spending his time raising his hatchlings and giving Irine much-needed breaks when she lies down for a nap. In doing so he tries to repent for the closure he never got with his own father. He will not take any sort of slight against his family, and their entire family is very close-knit.

His priority is to see that all innocents are protected from harm and to right any wrongs. Seeing those who do evil punished appropriately for their misdeeds is Shylock's goal, though he has been known to be too gung-ho about it and ruthless in his pursuit of justice. A sharp word from a friend can bring him back to his senses, but left unchecked nothing will curb his rage.
