History:
Crona was born into the clan of Emerald Falls, to his father Ajax, and mother, Constellation. They lived happily, and all was well.

All of this changed when one day, after returning home from a week-long hunting trip, Constellation was gone, leaving Crona to take care of his heart-broken father.
Ajax's blindness had never stopped him before, but now, in his grieving state, he was letting it.

Crona knew he couldn't let this happen, and so, unlike all the other unmarked hatchlings in Emerald Falls, he stayed to take care of his father. Ajax and Crona grew close, and over a few years, Ajax even seemed to begin to recover from his depressive state.

All was not well for Crona, however. He was full-grown now, but he had not inherited the size or strength of his father. Instead he was small and fast. This wasn't well for Crona, who wanted to be like his father, a great warrior. He begged Anton to let him train to become a warrior, who wasn't keen to, but had been known to help weaker dragons become strong. It was to no avail.

Unknown to Crona, Anton refused to train Crona because he was unmarked. Unmarked when trained often couldn't resist the call of the Gladekeeper, and left the clan forever. Anton couldn't do that to Ajax. So he refused Crona, much to Crona's anguish.

Crona continued to aid Ajax for many moons, and was finally convinced by Ajax to take a break and go on a hunting trip, saying he'd "be fine" until Crona returned.

When Crona finally did return, he was astonished to find that Ajax had a , and that he refused to acknowledge Crona as his son.

No one would answer Crona's frantic questions, afraid to let Athene know the secret that would crumble her fragile mind to dust. He ran to Saracen, a good friend. But when Saracen, unable to spit out the sad truth immediately, didn't answer Crona's pleas, he fled again. This time directly to Bion, the clan's leader.

Bion, was appalled that no one had told him the truth, and began to explain.

Crona was frozen, as he listened to the story that had played out while he'd only been gone for a few days. Of how Athene believed herself to be a creation of the Gladekeeper, and how she believed her mate to be the other half of her soul. And how Ajax was that supposed soul-mate.

Crona felt himself begin to feel sick as he discovered the Ajax would never acknowledge him as his son, and he snapped. He couldn't take this living nightmare anymore. He had to get away, someplace that Ajax would never follow. At this point, he doubted Ajax would even try.

So he ran.

Crona had always been fast. It made up for his lack in size. And now he was slightly grateful. He hadn't tried to leave the glade since he was little, and back then he hadn't been fast enough to get away before Anton caught him. Crona knew that Anton couldn't catch him now, not while he was on a nest and Tiri gone.

Maybe this really was the Gladekeeper's way of telling him it was time for him to leave.

He ran, but behind him he could hear Bion shouting, and as he slipped into the jungle, he could hear the sounds of pursuit. He pushed himself to go faster than he'd ever gone before. His chest burned, and his legs screamed but he grimly pushed himself to go faster. He wasn't going to be dragged back. He wouldn't. He'd rather die.

There was nothing left for him there really, was there?

The sounds of pursuit was fading in the background, and he reckoned some had even given up. Until he heard a loud crashing noise coming through the jungle.

He recognized two voices shouting his name. Caeruleum and Glas. Crap. If they caught up to him, they were big enough to stop him, to drag him back. Thinking on Glas's aversion to water, his only hope was to get across the channel of water that divided Nature from Light and Shadow.

He broke through the trees, desperately throwing his eyes across the water's edge, searching for something. Something. There! A boat of fisherman dragons casting off from Nature's shore. He bolted towards them.

"Please." He gasped. "I need a ride across the channel."

The dragons exchanged glances, and one nodded, patting the seat next to him. Crona jumped in, his momentum pushing the boat out into the water.

The dragon's all turned as the trees behind them shook, and Glas erupted from the treeline. "Crona, get back here!"

Crona flinched and threw himself at the boat's oars. He frantically began to row, churning up the water. He mentally cursed himself. Why couldn't he be strong? He was too weak to get away. Why couldn't he be strong like Aj... He mentally kicked himself as his heart tightened. Why would he think about that?

He promised that if he got away, he'd do his best to forget everything that had anything to do with Emerald Falls. ...and all the dragon's in it.

Suddenly he felt claws gripping the ores next to him, propelling the boat even faster. When he glanced at the shadow dragons, he saw fear in their eyes.

But that wasn't right, they were afraid of Glas. Glas wouldn't hurt them... right. Forgetting.

He allowed himself a glance back, and gritted his teeth, Glas was gone. Caeruleum had broken through the trees, and was calling after them. Her voice was growing fainter as they sped across the channel. They were almost halfway there. Then Crona realized, if Glas wasn't there on the shore, then that meant...

He glanced down at the water, and saw something vaguely green below them. Disbelief was overcome by fear in an instant. They were so close!

He glanced back as he heard a loud splash. All the filled his vision was a huge oncoming wave.

"Hold on!" He shouted at the shadow dragons, just as their boat was sucked to the top of the wave and propelled along on top of it. Crona was faintly surprised the boat hadn't capsized. The shore rushed towards them.

Crona watched it come with growing determination. Gladekeeper must really want him gone.

The realm of the Shadowbinder was shrouded in darkness. It was so thick, that Crona could hardly make out the trees from the undergrowth. Small glowing mushrooms were the only source of light visible between twisting brambles. Crona blinked, trying to make his eyes adjust. They did, but only slightly. He supposed only a shadow dragon would be able to see clearly through the darkness.
He closed his eyes and tried to calm his racing heart, panicking right now would only get him caught. So he pushed the mental image of a soaked and furious Glas from his thoughts. He needed to find a path that would lead him through the undergrowth. He inhaled, breathing in the sharp scent of pine.

His eyes flashed open and he quickly let his eyes trace the glowing mushrooms. An old Dragon’s Tale that his fath—Ajax had told him when he was little came suddenly to mind.

“If you’re ever lost in Shadow’ gloom,
Follow the light of the mushrooms.”

As his eyes flicked to the nearest patch of glowing mushrooms, he realized that they marked the entrance to a path. And he was off again, his legs brushing against the brambles, but never through them.

It had been a while, and the woods had completely swallowed him, when he stumbled into a clearing. It was disorienting, to go from the relative darkness of the woods, to the sudden brightness of torches filling the clearing.
He was disoriented for a moment, before realizing that a group of dragons were gathered around a campfire gawking at him. The silence stretched on for another moment. Two. Three.
Finally one of the dragons from around the campfire cleared her throat awkwardly.

“Can… we help you?” She asked awkwardly.
Crona was slightly relieved that they didn’t seem too threatening, or angry about his presence, but as he backed up slowly he decided to be careful, just in case.

“I-I’m sorry,” He began, annoyed at the tremble in his voice. “I think I may be lost. And there’s dragons after me. And--” He took a steadying breath as he observed their reactions. They seemed puzzled, but patiently waited for him to continue.

“I’m trying to get to Light flight, do you think you could point me in the right direction?”
The dragon that had spoken glanced at the other dragons around the fire. She was small, as expected of a fae, but she seemed to be in charge. But still, she silently pressed the other dragons for their input.

It seemed he had gained their sympathies when one of the other dragons, a wildclaw, sighed and stood. Out of his pouch flew a glowing sprite with pink eyes. As if to answer Crona’s questioning glance, the wildclaw sighed, “This is my familiar, Eovynn. She’ll lead you out of Shadow, but after that you’re on your own.”

Crona gave a sigh of relief, and smiled gratefully at the dragons.
“Thank you, really. Could I ask for one more favor?”
The fae turned her head curiously, “I don’t think you’re really in any position to be asking for favors, but shoot.”
Crona swallowed and nodded, “If dragons come looking for me, will you tell them I’m going to Plague?”
The fae nodded, the look she was giving him was sympathetic.
“Of course, kid. May Shadowbinder bless your path and keep it clear.”
“Yours as well. Thank you again.” Crona said. He hoped his genuine gratitude was making its way through his words.
The Wildclaw sniffed and then stiffened, “You’d better get a move on, something is coming, and it smells like death.” His voice was hushed, and he ushered Crona and Eovynn to make a hasty departure back into the shadowy forest.
Crona didn’t need any more prodding, he and Eovynn were swallowed by the darkness in a moment. A moment too late, as a dragon burst into the clearing behind them.
He wasn’t aware of the tussle that happened, or that the dragon had spotted Eovynn’s light right before it was hidden from view. All he knew is that Eovynn was suddenly moving at a much faster pace, and he mistakenly took it as the sprite wanting to get back to the wildclaw it was bonded to as quickly as possible.

So he raced after the sprite, unaware that a pursuer was close behind.
The dragon’s watched as the hooded wildclaw that smelled of death lunged into the woods after the pink-winged wildclaw. The fae sighed, and checked her clanmates for injuries. The wildclaw hadn’t seemed to care that they attempted to block her path, but in her desperation to catch the other dragon, she had delivered a few nasty nicks.
“I hope he’s ok.” One of the dragons whispered as she pressed cleansing herbs into the horizontal scratch that ran down her flank. The fae helped her bandage the cut, and they settled back around the fire.

“Me too.” She agreed quietly. “It looks like he’s running away from some sort of gang.”
The wildclaw settled next to her, and whispered to her, “More are almost here. Should we trick them into thinking the other member of their party pursued the kid to plague like he asked.”

The fae nodded, and the word was spread quietly around the fire like flickering flames.
All the dragons looked up nervously as two large dragons burst from the undergrowth. One was a large guardian with shifty eyes, the other was a huge sparkling green imperial. The imperial was seething…and sopping wet? Their appearances only served to further convince them of gang-relatedness.
“Can we help you?” The fae asked, adding a slight tremor in her voice. All part of the act.
The green dragon trained his eyes on them, and took a steadying breath. The guardian was eyeing the clan member’s bags. The fae made a mental note to check their personal belongings were all in place after they were done here.

The imperial spoke fairly calmly, although his head bobbed irritably as water dripped down his face.
“Yes, actually. We’re looking for… a member of our clan who’s very confused and has ran away.”

The pause was suspicious. They wouldn’t know, that it was painful to say for Glas, to admit that Crona probably wouldn’t be a member of the clan, even if they were able to drag him back. It broke his heart to think that the little dragon he’d played with and watched over, who’d stayed by Ajax’s side for so long, might be gone forever. And to leave on such bad terms…
“Maybe you could describe them? We’ve had quite a few dragons through this path today.”

The fae exchanged glances with the wildclaw, would these strangers know enough about this territory to know that that was basically a flat-out lie? Travelers in this area were rare, especially outsiders, and especially so many in one day.
It didn’t appear so, as the imperial launched himself into a description of the wildclaw.
“…And his name is Crona.” He finished, trying to suppress his hope.
“Crona, hm?” The fae hummed to herself, pretending to go through a mental list of imaginary travelers. She perked up, the action causing the imperial’s ears to perk up as well.
“Ah yes, I remember him, he did look pretty frightened.” She said as she made eye contact with the imperial, just to gauge his reaction. The imperial had a mixture of relief and concern on his face.
“He said he was headed to Plague. Didn’t say why, but he took the path that way,” The fae said, gesturing to a path in the complete opposite from the one Crona had really taken. “If you hurry, you might be able to catch him before he gets there.

The imperial nodded, but he looked troubled. Even the guardian had stopped investigating the bags when she had said “Plague.”

The imperial glanced at the guardian, “Anton’s not going to be happy about that.” He muttered, before returning his attention back to the other dragons.

“Thank you for your help.”
Then he and the guardian were gone into the trees. The fae could only hope that when they didn’t find Crona, they’d believe it was because he had gotten away from them, not that the clan had led them astray. She didn’t need any of the green imperial’s anger directed at them.

“So…” The wildclaw next to her began slowly. “Anton?”
The fae considered the name. “Sounds like a gang leader to me.”
They settled back around the fire once more, but not before checking their bags.
