Ashes Tribune of Magic Studious | Curious | Modern  Ashes was born to Swiftmind's second nest, making him Arcanus' half-brother. As he lacked the stern, dutiful upbringing blood of Rune, he was never quite as good as his brother at being in control of himself. He was more akin to their shared sire: intimidatingly intelligent, but flighty, lighthearted, and easy to read. His appetite for understanding magic has been insatiable from birth. With little guidance, he was able to wrap his mind around multiple schools of magical theory and application, in spite of his inability to actually perform magic without the use of increasingly complex. It was this magical circle that prompted Lutia to first take him under her wing. Through her, his knowledge grew and he was able to take pride in himself as his brother's equal, albeit in different skills. He married an equally smart and lighthearted imperial named Willow who came from the Shifting Expanse, and for the remaining eras of the Old Dynasty, he flourished. The Exodus cost him his wife and his relationship with Lutia. He watched Willow fall to contagion in the Scarred Wasteland, and while he might have forgiven Lutia the outburst that drove them out and into those conditions, her stubbornness has soured his opinion of her. They have spoken on only limited occasions, only for business, and usually he has exploded on her at least once. He knew that Horizon was special to her, but he would never have believed that she cared so little for him that she could not even express remorse over Willow's death and her part it in. It was only recently, after both finally returned to the Isles and were able to visit the grave site, that they made amends and decided to start again. His relationship with his family is complicated. Having Stellaria, his firstborn's firstborn, come to the clan to live with him did wonders initially. But due to Ashes' unexpected fling with a witch after the rumor of Lightweaver's intent to 'correct the mistake' that was the making of Imperials, they fell apart. He left Willow's memento with her, and while he hasn't shown any interest in re-marrying, he is past his grief. He considers their growing apart for the best. He has never been able to shake his mild resentment for the more father-daughter like relationships she has with other males in the clan, even though he knows it's petty and is the fault of his irresponsible demeanor. While Ashes knows that Stellaria and even his new son Hihi'o love him, he also accepts that he is simply not reliable enough to foster any kind of proper father-child relationship. He is very loving however, and has taken to doting heavily on his niece Koki'o and many of the clan's young magic students. ╭━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━╮
