Biography
Aegisthus - The King, The Usurper
--
Aegisthus is the son of the late king Agamemnon and his mistress. His birth was intended to provide an heir to the throne as Klytaimnestra refused any courtship from his father. Knowing he was the product of an affair and created to serve his father's goals left him bitter and resentful. Despite being an unwilling participant to Agamemnon's grooming, Aegisthus thrived in the military training and tactical education given to him, taking to it as naturally as breathing air. His cunning contributed to the plot to overthrow his own father before his time, though he could not bring himself to kill the man. Instead, he had his father's status and wealth stripped and cast Agamemnon and his mistress out to live a plain life beyond the borders of the kingdom. He considers this act his greatest kindness, something to distinguish him above his callous and cruel father.
As king, Aegisthus has improved the strength of the warriors under his command and brought prosperity to the people. His change of focus from conquest to security has allowed the populace to thrive and peace to settle in. He makes frequent appearances along the border camps to inspire and inspect the soldiers who guard them. His willingness to participate on the front lines of battle has earned him the respect of those that serve.
He loves his queen, adores her even. He pays no mind to any gossip or criticism about her age, and cares little for the pressure to sire an heir for the throne. When together, Aegisthus only has eyes for her. He enjoys spoiling her with gifts and spending whole days devoted to listening to her talk or watching her go about her tasks.
Aegisthus' demonic form is similar in appearance to Klytaimnestra, though in contrast he towers over her and is far more muscle and sinew than soft lines. His face and hands have small, aged scars from combat training and his body bears a handful of scars from real battles. Small crimson spikes line his spine from the back of his skull downwards. His hair is worn in long, dark blue-black braids. When not styled for public dress, it hangs softly curled and loose around him. He keeps his face clean-shaven. He is typically never seen out of armor or regal dress except for the time he spends near his beloved. Despite his typically stoic demeanor, he does express a small amount of vanity in the details.
His magical proficiency is more combat-oriented, making him faster and more durable than his opponents or helping him to position himself or his enemies exactly how he wants them. He can inspire valor in his allies and fear in his enemies. Aegisthus' control over the battlefield is unmatched and peerless.
