On 10-17-15, ___ sent a letter to his Dad, along with some sardines:

Dear Sirel,

I'm writing to tell you I've found a place in a very friendly and scholarly Shadow clan. There's this very old dragon, Draiochta, who is teaching me all sorts of things. She was a newcomer to this clan back when they followed the Arcanist, and she keeps all their lore. She is never to be seen without her familiar, Purrl, a pink sprite who loves reading and writing.

She's been calling me Wee One, but now that i'm all grown up, she says I'll have to find a proper name. Look--aren't I pretty now?





I miss you and Mom, but not too much!

Oh, and look, I caught some fish!

Dear 'Wee One',
Look at you now! It makes me so happy to learn you have found your place in the world. I'm glad to hear you're in a clan that cares for you as much as your mother and I did. I know she would be proud of you.
Not long after you and your siblings left home, your mother went to serve the Gladekeeper. She said it was a great honor and hoped each of our children would one day find the deity they wished to serve. Knowing you have found yours would put a big smile on her face.
Please keep me up to date with your adventures - and of course your name when you find it. I know it will be a grand one.

A handsome, purple-winged dragon wings down from the sky and looks around. "I've been here before! This is my Dad's old lair, isn't it?" He soon learns that Sirel decided to follow his mother to serve the Gladekeeper. "Well, it's a great honor of course, though I can't help but be a little sad I didn't get to tell him my name directly--next time someone heads thataway, could you tell him I've found my calling delivering good cheer? I'd really appreciate it!

"Oh, and that reminds me--i have brought a fine chess set for your lair! I can stick around a little bit to teach some hatchlings the basics, if you would like. Then I have other deliveries to make!"

First Snow

A glowing egg cracks in the sun
A new dragon’s life, just begun
Eyes unfocused, she looks around
What’s this white stuff on the ground?
And on her feathers, wings and tail
Oh, but she’s hungry, she starts to wail!





Her mother brings a nice hot steak
Hot chocolate thick as a milkshake
A wooly coat to lie upon
Next to her sis who hatched at dawn
More food, more chocolate, more love for all
But especially for these two dragons small.





The bigger hatchlings jump and play
It doesn’t just snow any day!
And full-grown dragons dance in the air
Or hunt and gather everywhere
Mistletoe smiles, and piles and sifts
Happy it’s time to plan some gifts.
