Bastien, like many spirals, is packed with energy. So much energy. He is a battery at full charge, a spring at the top of a staircase, a storm cloud fully loaded with lightning.

So what does he do with all that energy, you might ask? Well, he puts it to work! While his primary home is here in the Driftwood Clan, he finds himself flying all over Sornieth on the job, as a mechanic and repairman. He works on a wide variety of equipment, from devices purely mechanical to magically enchanted machines, and so far he has a very good track record. The biggest problems he tends to come across are two things: 1), the repair requires a hard-to-find part, or 2), the repair requires magic outside of his Arcane alignment.

For every problem, though, there is always a solution! Most of the time it's magically re-enforced duct tape, but there are work-arounds for the biggest problems too. If the part required is very rare or no longer available, he will commission the clan's forgers to craft a precision replacement. For anything outside the bounds of the clan's skillset, he may travel to the Ashfall Waste or to the Shifting Expanse to find a craftsdragon with the needed skills. As far as magic is concerned, well, he's traveled so much and met so many dragons that he'll know someone who can lend a casting claw!

While he has traveled extensively and seen many wonderful things and enjoyed many breathtaking sights, his favorite place to be is the ocean. He will even dive under the waves to enjoy the sights under the sea, and will make frequent use of a lair-built device cobbled together from metal and water-element magic. It's essentially a diving suit, with weights along the body to keep it from floating, and a helmet which allows him to breathe. The helmet is fed air from a hose that winds up to the water's surface on its own, enchanted to "gulp" fresh air and pump out old air while keeping itself above the waves. It is Bastien's most cherished possession.

Many dragons, including his mate, Rainsoul, think that he should have been born a Water dragon rather than Arcane. Bastien, however, does not regret the circumstances of his hatching, and the waters around the Starfall Isles are still some of his favorite places to go diving. Dragons trying to look for Bastien while he's on a dive do not always have to search very hard; Rainsoul loves to soar through the sky, and will often play in the wind above the spot where Bastien is diving, watching his magic air hose bob on top of the waves.
