_F I R S T　E N C O U N T E R_

____Somewhere along the way you lost your route. The darkness of this part of the cave scared you. From behind you there was a hollow thunk noise. You ran forward into the inky depths of the cave away from the noise. Yet as you ran the noise seemed to get closer and closer. The noise became faster and faster until...!

____You slammed into a large warm lump of scales. You looked up to see a hooded dragon grinning at you with a menacing hammer in her hands. You scrambled for something to protect yourself, but instead of feeling a hammer slam into your skin you felt a warm claw on your head. "Are you lost little one?" A shiver ran down your spine. The voice was gentle and calming with a deep crackling noise at the end of every sentence. "You seem worried. Rest. I will be working until you regain yourself. Come speak to me when you are ready."

____The dragon left you where you were and continued slamming her hammer against her project. What exactly was she doing? You looked around the cavern to see broken pieces of objects. You were even sitting on a pile of rubble. When your breathing returned to normal you approached the blue dragon, this time less frantically.

____"Hello," you said. "What are you doing?" The dragon looked at you with a gentle grin.

____"It is hard for me to explain without first asking you this. Have you ever loved something very much but at the same time wanted to get rid of it because it hurt you too much?" You thought and then nodded slowly. "Everyone in this clan has carried with them burdens and sorrows in small loving totems that they keep close..." The dragon picked up a small bird skull with a large crack down the center and showed it to you. "They may not mean much to you or me, but to the true owner this object meant more than anything in the world..." She placed the cracked skull on a large flat stone. "However, some things we love can become painful reminders of the things we try to avoid. Mistakes. Failed loves. Death. We try to distance ourselves from these reminders in every way we can, but it isn't that easy my little one." She lifted her hammer above her head. You covered your eyes, but peered through the cracks to see the hammer slam down into the small object. Fragments of bone scattered throughout the space.

____"So we try desperately to destroy these things, but we can never bring ourselves to destroy things we once loved so dearly." She picked up a fragment and placed it in your hand. "I am Hamartia or as I was once called, a 'fatal flaw.' From a young age I found that I often destroyed things. I was chased from home to home until I found this place. Here I am given a task that no other can be given. I destroy things that are or perhaps were loved. However the story does not end with destruction." You looked at her with confusion.

____She motioned at you to follow her to a wall at the far end of the cavern. The wall was covered with a heavy grey curtain that Hamartia slowly pulled aside. You almost dropped the fragment in your hand at the sight. The wall was covered with various fragments. However, when you stepped away from the wall you could see that it was a large mural of various dragons. Hamartia once again motioned at you to place the fragment on the wall which you did carefully. "You see a tragedy doesn't need to be horrible. It doesn't have to be sad to move on from things you once loved. These things that you once loved can become great things even when broken." You and her stood staring at the mural for what seemed like an eternity.

____"My little one we all make mistakes. We all fall. We all cry. But remember that even your worst days can become beautiful stories to look back on when the storms have calmed. No matter what you are told... No matter who knocks you down... No matter if the things you love are broken; you can always become better. I believe that you can."
