Maia is a special brand of crazy. She is borderline psychopathic and is carefully monitored any time she's within the Edge of the Wyld clan dwelling. She's an absolutely brilliant tactician and will ruthlessly crush any enemy who dares venture into the territory.

Most dragons in the clan have a hard time believing what kind of havoc she wreaks on the battlefield because the Maia they are presented with is calm, cool, and very urbane. Maia has a fondness for good poetry (though she's had to be held back when subjected to some of the stuff Aureate comes up with), interesting stories, fine wines, and elegantly presented food. People are drawn to her quiet, dignified exterior and claim that she's one of the nicest dragons in the lair.

What only a few people realize (primarily Faewyld, Freyir, Kinya, and Kuro) is that Maia views most of the dragons that scurry around her as annoying reptiles and they've likely been executed in at least three different, fantastic ways in her mind even though she never outwardly takes action on her impulses. Maia has saved the lives of many within the clan on a few different occasions and because of that, Kinya lets her stay with the Edge of the Wyld clan.

Part of what curbs her tendencies in the lair is the fact that she spends hours (sometimes days) outside of the lair alone on 'information gathering missions'. She never talks about how she gathers the information, but she has never brought back anything false.

It is a little known fact that when she leaves on these missions, her pack contains Red Birdskull attire that she changes into once she's well outside of the Edge of the Wyld Clan territory. The apparel is usually accompanied with a black cowl and mantle so that her identity is concealed from those she finds.

If Maia ever finds out who Mayonaka truly is, it is very likely the last thing the Skydancer will know before a very long, unpleasant death is a black-cloak and skulled vengeful spirit bearing down on her.
