Biography

1087.png Lilith
In some folklore, a female demon with great power

"Have you ever lost a piece of yourself ... forever?"

It was dark when someone found her, and brought the half starved female into the lair. Just one look, and their leader Fauna knew. She did not need to hear the details, she could simply feel it. Taste the guilt, smell the failure, the shame. It rolled off of the lonely white female in waves. It stained her body in great bloody patches, eating away at her.

They treated her wounds as she sat silently, staring off into the distance at nothing in particular. Many whispered in the background, asking what they could or should do for a Guardian who had lost their Charge. No one knew of any surviving long after, as they had only heard stories of poor dragons disappearing into the night. Many suspected they crawled off someplace to die themselves.

A few days passed and finally she spoke. "My name is Lilith..."

Once Lilith settled into the clan, she was asked if she had any useful skills to offer. It was a few days before she came forward with her answer. She knew what to do with the dead. She could properly handle their body after death, giving them a bit of dignity at the end of their time with the clan. She knew how deep to dig the grave in order to avoid scavengers. She knew which seeds to plant over the freshly turned earth. She could do these things that others might not have the heart, or stomach, to do and she could do them with respect and understanding.

So now, if ever there is an elder who reaches the end of their days, a proud warrior who falls in battle, or even a sickly hatchling who doesn't make it ... Lilith is there to offer her quiet condolences and the promise that all will be handled for the family and friends so they can focus on their mourning. Even the occasional familiar who passes is given kind treatment by this broken-hearted Guardian.

No one envies Lilith her job, and while none of their kind words can bring back everything that she herself has lost, it's still good to know that she is appreciated once more. Healing takes time, though not all wounds close with time.

While Lilith is treated very nicely and welcomed as part of the clan, she sometimes still feels like an outsider. She lacks friends, the close bonds that others seem to gather so effortlessly. Part of that is her own fault, as she is unwilling to explain her troubled past. However there seems to be an almost innate aversion to Guardians who have lost their Charge, as though they are wrong somehow and others can sense and avoid it.

One dragon though does not seem to notice this nor care. Alkahest, the clan's Chemist, has recently moved into the clan and politely asked if he can share her living space. It is dry, out of the way, and a cool temperature that will be simply perfect for his experiments ... or so he says anyway. Lilith gives him space to tinker with his potions and in exchange, she has some company that doesn't require much conversation. He doesn't ask probing questions, only that she pass him that glass vial of suspicious liquid. It's a strange companionship to say the least.

Thanks to Aklahest's gentle coaxing, Lilith has decided to have her first nest. She is afraid that something awful will happen, either by accident or by her own doing. She is nervous, stressed and actually more outgoing now that she's expecting offspring, even going so far as to approach her clanmates for advice. Part of her cannot shake the pessimism and doubt that have haunted her since the death of her Charge. But with the help of her new mate, Lilith is once more looking forward to what the future holds.
