overview . Peace never lasts, and so it was for the Vigilight clan. It all began with the arrival of a ship captain, the magnificent Canale. He and his crew claimed to be a group of seafaring scavengers, and for many years that is the role they played as members of the clan. Yet each time they would return from long voyages with new stories, new wealth, even new dragons to call Bastion home.
The leadership change within the Vigilight Clan may have seemed sudden so outsiders, but the inevitability of it was a gradual wave that built up until it crashed upon the clan.

history. The waters are warmer here, in the north. The wind's fingers vital and comforting as they rake through the captain's sunlit mane. Even the light of the far-distant stars seems warmer.

Perhaps that's why the hunting is good - Canale had never known the sea to deny him his heart's desire - an oh, but he has a greedy heart.

But the wind and seas are ever fickle mistresses, and Canale's time in the sun seemed set to end -
squalls ravaged the waters he and his crew favoured to hunt. It drove merchant ships inland,
and the pirates found themselves bereft.

Tenacity, of course, is a chief trait among pirates, and when Canale spied the Bastion, his mind immediately began to turn - when his eyes met with Preveza's, he knew she saw it too. They did not strike immediately, the pirates: they did not have the numbers, or at least this is what they told themselves. Certainly these warm waters had not thawed the buccaneer's icy hearts.

Certainly, it was in the interest of having more by doing less that Canale overthrew the leadership fo the Bastion, and not at all to make a strong place stronger. Pirates have no need for a warm hearth or glad stories. He would take their treasures and sail with the tide, when the seas were right. Days fell into weeks, weeks roll into months. Years pass, and yet he is still here, in the warm golden walls of the Bastion.
