Aminon was not always like this. He had trusted before. He had even welcomed newcomers, eager to know them, their tales, their dreams - even when the others avoided him, believing him to be mad, he was happy to wander among others. But ever since that night, when he searched for something to help Antares’ sickness, he had never been the same.

He had been attacked by something, by nothing, but everything - and he carried no recollection of any of it. His memory was a blank slate, or perhaps a hole in the earth - something had once filled the gap, but it had since been dug up, ripped out, stolen.

And Aminon was made paranoid by it. He could hardly it still, and he trusted no dragon. Restless within the Clan, there was nobody - not his great star of a father, Nebula, nor his mentor and his friend, Antares - who could calm him. He tried to quell his growing terror, but there was no succeeding. The voices only grew louder and louder in his mind, making their homes in the darkest corners of his being and inhabiting the newly-evacuated space there.

To speak of space, Aminon threw himself into his study of the stars. The constellations were silent, like his father, and a welcome relief to the loud, crashing conversation within him. Antares learned to help Aminon by providing him with work, assignments to distract him, to take his mind off of his… well, his mind.

It was no way to live, but Aminon did not know what else to do. So he poured his energy into his work, and attached himself to Antares’ side, ever-hopeful for a new task or duty to bring himself some quiet. He grew clingy, trusting only the Guardian. He was not calmer, only distracted momentarily. If he ever paused his work, the noise came rushing back, and the voices whispered, yelled, chanted, drowning out any thought of his own. He was not sure of their intention, but he knew their void to be malicious, and their goal to be devastating should it come to pass. So he would not let it come to pass.

He was spiralling into madness, he knew. But would it be better to let the voices, the void, the night within, win instead? He was growing closer to saying yes with each passing day. Before long, he would give in, and the darkness would take over. He would hand them the key to their success and to his destruction, along with the destruction of anything he had ever loved. He hated the thought - but he was losing his fight.
