Ashlea
'The Maiden of Death'
Tender to the Garden of Blight

“Crudelis was born of the Late Lights, a lair of mercenaries turned cultural oasis. Her journey took her from the lair of her birth to the feet of the Plaguebringer, what happened in between is lost to record. Little was known of her living offspring, until now.”

“Ashlea was the name, right?”

“Yes, she is of alliance blood, we own them the duty of inspecting the case.” Yaeshon had that quite look of death about him, the kind Embla knew better then to argue with.

Inspecting cases were common enough, part of Embla’s job even, though never had the inspection party consisted of this many uniquely skilled individuals. De Carcere ad Lucem Guard ranging from their most skilled fighters to powerful illusionists and healers approached the site.

Embla knew that for months Yaeshon had been dutifully monitoring the reports from the Shadowbinder’s realm. Lairs in the small region reported great loss of life in both plants and animals, dragons who had gone in search of the plague often never returned. All who returned reported seeing a grey crystal Skydancer with strikingly red wings and thistle dull leg marks. Therefore, Embla and his party found themselves tracking the dead patches of earth, only one blood line matched that description.

“I know you, I walked with you once upon a dream.”

Embla felt the fur on his neck prickle at the ghostly sight of faded scales and blood red eyes. She stood yards from the party. The unnatural darkness of the realm did little to ease his nerves.

“I know you that look in your eyes is so familiar a gleam, and I know it is true that visions are seldom what they seem. But if I know you, I know what you’ll do, you will love me once, the way you did once upon a dream.”

Her voice, a song touching, pulling at Embla. The red of her eyes tugged him in, surrounded and consumed. All thoughts of why he was brought here or who he was faded to obscurity. He could die happily, would die happily at her feet.

“Embla.”

The world had faded around him, his body felt distant. An throbbed in his side told him he had fallen. The party was scattered. He could smell blood, who was bleeding?

“Lay still Embla.” Eri’s voice coaxed him down, her paws and face were smeared with blood, his blood. His throat failed to retrieve the words he was so desperately trying to raise.

“Sleep now. Your safe.” Had he a choice? No. Eri’s magic eased Embla into a near death sleep.

“They came with water, so much water... It swept away our home, my garden. When I awoke I was in the shadow realm.”

“You never tried to go home?” Yeashon’s words were patient, calm.

“Home? I have been feared, prosecuted since my birth. There is no home to return to so I made a new one.”

“The garden we found you in.” Ashlea’s steady gaze confirmed. “My herbalist explained that you seem to harbor a kind of blight, plants that seem to thrive on it?”

“We are all born to different talents, the blight is mine.”

“You understand why that could be concerning to some.”

“I do not wish to harm lairs, I simply wish to tend my garden in peace. We taking nothing but what we need and harm only in defense.”

“My lair is willing provide you a place to grow your garden if you wish, we will not keep you here if you chose to leave.”

Ashlea was ever unreadable, frustratingly so to her on seers. “This is acceptable, for now.”
[Start Status Report: Subject Ashlea]

Ashlea has taken to a corner of the canyon, with aid from Arrow and Cardani her garden has flourished. She seems willing to allow us to study her various plants, many of which cause vivid hallucinations or caustic poisons. It is believed that these biohazards could be harnessed as medical aids if given the right guidance.

Ashlea as usual cares not for the intent our lair has towards her plans so long as she can tend to them. Tend to them she does, devoutly monitoring every inch of her garden. If only she were interested in the guard the way she was her plants, we could use such a studious member.

Embla has made a full recovery, thanks to Eri’s magic, though he has not quite come around to trusting Ashlea, who relishes his mistrust taking any opportunity to torment the old creature.

Below is a brief catalog of plans provided by Zamza, see attached report for full list.

-Fern, called Zebra Fern: When pollen is inhaled causes loss of bodily control.
-Rose, called Blood Rose: Thorns contain a powerful neurotoxin.
-Pitcher Plant, called Dragon’s Mouth: Fluid found within this plant is a strong narcotic, can be absorbed through skin or ingested, reactions vary.
-Lilly, called Love Lilly: Pollen found in this plant causes a strong urge to obey the wielder, effects are described as a lustful longing or ‘true love’ like effect.
