Biography
SENTINEL
Callum's unflinchingly devoted yet bizarre protector. Seems to have little interest in much else save guard duty.
Callum's unflinchingly devoted yet bizarre protector. Seems to have little interest in much else save guard duty.
Once upon a time, there was a shard of Sacridite, nestled in the rubble of a long-destroyed dwelling deep in the heart of the Hewn City. Perhaps it fell from the satchel of a scholar passing through while researching in the field. Perhaps it fell from the sack of a courier flying far above the Sunbeam Ruins. Or perhaps it never fell from anywhere at all, but simply always was there, among the rocks. For ages this stone sat, lifeless as it was, without a single witness. Until one day it started to grow. At first, the shard sprouted into a cluster of crystals hardly bigger than a Fae. Yet its growth did not halt. After only a few weeks, the Sacridite grew tall enough to burst up through the rubble and into the eldritch moonlight of the Hewn City. What started as a single shard of Sacridite was now as big as an Imperial. In fact, it was an Imperial... At least, that's how one story goes-- if anyone could uncover the truth, it would be the Light flight. But simply put, it seems impossible to explain Sentinel's existence in any way that sounds rational. Those dragons reported to be his parents claim that they only laid a two-egg clutch and that "Sentinel," as the large dragon came to be known, always acted a bit odd. He seemed out of place and eerily knowledgeable in comparison to his two "siblings." No amount of "blessed by Lightweaver" could explain how his wings were literally made of Sacridite and his body was covered in veins of it. While some did indeed believe their deity had blessed them, more often than not they threw around terms like "changeling," "spy," and "imposter." Especially when the Imperial began to get close to a Pearlcatcher noble. Many noticed that Sentinel provoked a change in Callum. Whenever Sentinel was around, the Pearlcatcher seemed to stand up straighter and speak with more conviction. Words flowed more easily and with more passion and weight. Almost as if by magic. The spotlight already on Callum magnified any new scandal tenfold, however. Rumors began to fly as to the nature of their relationship. Who was this Imperial spy, and what kind of evil charms did he employ to gain the noble's trust? Was this his downfall? Callum and the Sacridite Sentinel eventually left the Sunbeam Ruins, but not out of shame. No one knew even half of the tale but the two dragons themselves... Sentinel wrote:
