____Calculus does not understand the obsession with genes that has swept through Sornieth. This doesn't bother him in the slightest; in fact, it rather amuses him that someone as old and wise as he, who has seen so much, could fail to understand such a mundane, simple thing. What does bother him is the treatment of those born to dragons, but without genes. They are ostracized and stigmatized, and often killed, deemed boring and unimportant. Not worth keeping alive, taking up precious food and space. Calculus, who has lived to see many a genocide and enough inhuman treatment to last him a million lifetimes, knows that the worth of a life should not be taken lightly.

____He himself was born geneless, and throughout all of his travels has never thought to put one onto himself. He is content the way he is. But he looks around now and sees the pain and suffering that being born geneless causes so many innocent dragons, and he vows to never put a gene on himself. He will stand as a pillar of passive resistance, hoping to show those younger than him that this isn't something to kill over, and to show those like him that they can live a long time, too. They don't have to die simply because of the way they were born.
