You have an aura of darkness inside you. . .in order to defeat it, you must learn to control it. How you do that is entirely up to you. But know, if it gets hold of you, it will not let go.
Among the brambles of the Scorched Forest lives Gellert the Blaze Seer. He resides in the largest tree, directly in the center of the woods.

When he was a hatching, Gellert and his mother took a journey through the vast Shrieking Wilds to gather wood for the Bonfire of Ages - a centennial event to celebrate their clan's conception. Gellert ran ahead to look for big branches with lots of dry leaves, his mother followed closely behind, though she was wary. She had heard of the creatures that lurked high in the treetops, causing strife to the dragons traveling below. She'd never heard of them doing anything dreadfully harmful, but young Gellert frightened easily. Who knows how he would react?
Still, she liked to see Gellert happy. So she let him wander through the vines, marveling at the peculiar insects he met along the way. She turned away, grinning to herself. She spotted a bush full of ripe Winter's Delight: Gellert's favorite. There's plenty of time before sundown, she thought. He does love Winter's Delight pie. . .

Gellert pushed forward, eager to collect as many branches as possible. There was a running bet among the hatchlings of who'd gather the most - Gellert came last. He wanted to prove everyone wrong. The only way to do that was gather his little tail off. If he did, he'd come back a hero. But his quest had not been going as planned. He'd hoped he'd come across a giant pile of fallen branches - obviously left by whatever faerie folk lived in the area - allotted especially for him. He scrunched his brows, surveying his surroundings. The path, well-lit and clear, seemed to be yielding no branches, only tiny twigs. That wouldn't do. Gellert glanced to the right; a thicket, impassable because of its density, stared back at him. He shook his head. That wouldn't do either. He looked left; his ears perked up. Though the way through was not very big, Gellert would fit nicely. He'd always been on the smaller side: a trait he never found use for. Finally, it came in handy.

His little body slithered through the prickly twigs, but not without injury. A sharp branch sliced Gellert's side. He let out a small gasp, but kept going. An actual war wound! He couldn't wait to tell the others.

The leaves above him shook. Gellert thought nothing of it. Stuff moves around all the time in the forest. His mother, on the other hand, felt differently. Shaking leaves high in the treetops never brings any good. She picked up a final berry, then turned, expecting to see her little hatchling prancing along the path. But the path was empty.

"Gellert?" she called. Her heart pounded. Please be close.
She held the berries in her arms, quickening her pace the further down the path she got. Clusters of them dropped to the forest floor as her movements got more frantic. "Gellert!"

Gellert perked up. He thought he heard his mom. He listened for another moment. Silence. I guess it was nothing, he thought. Gellert ventured deeper into the woods. There wasn't even clear dirt for him to walk on now. Only nettled ground and crunchy leaves. He stepped on something sharp and let out a tiny yelp. He sat down to inspect his second war wound of the journey. Not even a mark. He sighed. At least he still had the first one. Gellert looked instead to the culprit of his pain in the leaves. Something shined underneath the forest debris; Gellert picked it up. The cool metal met his hand, sending a shiver down his arm. The blueish material encircled water-like glass - clear and turquoise. A monster of sorts adorned the top of the pendant and its tail curled at the bottom. Its eyes glowed the same blue as the glass. Gellert's eyes widened at the sight of such an incredible treasure. He couldn't wait to show the other hatchlings. With his treasure in hand, he decided it was about time he found his mom. She knew the way back home more than he did, and he wanted to get back as soon as possible. His stomach rumbled. He hadn't eaten since breakfast and the sun was nearly setting.

CRASH!

Gellert screamed, ducking low to the ground as leaves and branches fell around him. Hard plops of heavy bodies fell all around him, the dirt shaking with each forceful noise. Gellert's body shook as low growls sounded close to his head. He ventured a glance at the scene around him. He wished he hadn't. A group of chimeras with sparking mouths and wild manes stared back at him, taking slow steps towards him. Their eyes glistened at the prospect of tearing little Gellert to pieces.

"Gellert!"

He jolted his head back to see his mother, panting and panicked. At the sight of her, he couldn't help but feel the warm tears gliding down his little cheek. The group of chimeras averted their gaze to the larger dragon before them. They looked between them, coming to the consensus that the bigger of the two would be first, then the small one would be dessert. Each arched their backs, then pounced one by one towards Gellert's mother.

"Gellert, go! Run home!" His legs were stuck to the ground. His eyes were transfixed on the beasts lunging with their foamy jaws towards his mother's swiping claws. "Go!"
He shook himself back to reality, then bolted through the leaves, heading back in the direction he came - or at least in the one he thought he did. It didn't matter. He just had to go, like his mom said. He ran, and ran, and ran until the soles of his feet went numb. All the way tears flew behind him. But he made it through the forest, bursting into the light of his clan.

He waited all night for his mother to come home, and he cried the whole time. If only I had run off, he thought. Mother would still be here. He clutched his treasure to his chest as he fell asleep, hoping his mother would return in the morning. She never did.

After the disappearance of his mother, Gellert isolated himself from the rest of the clan. He poured himself into studying the arts of divination; he wanted to learn everything he could about pendant he found that terrible day. When he was old enough, he left the clan to pursue his interests elsewhere, so he returned to the forest where his mother disappeared and found the spot closest to where the chimera battle took place. In that spot, a giant tree had grown. He knew it was his mother. From then on, he made the tree his home.
