Knell has always had a way with needle and thread. Since she was a hatchling her parents would find her playing with scraps of fabric and making outfits for her Windsinger plushie. As she grew she apprenticed with BLANK at BLANK and then returned home to establish herself as the clan seamstress. Her business started off quite well, though she was mostly tasked with mending torn clothing and not making new fabric masterpieces.

Then a Skydancer traveling through her clan back to his own, asked her to repair his Haori which had been ripped. He recognized her talent and asked her if she wanted to try opening a shop in his clan's territory. He introduced himself as Duskerin, and mentioned that he is on the ruling council for the Updraft Knot Clan representing the artisans and citizens of the clan. He thought that they would enjoy seeing her work blossom.

She agreed to think about it, and even though his clan was nearby her home, she wasn't sure she wanted to take the risk. She discussed it with her parents and they thought she should go for it. With their encouragement she packed up her shop and moved it to the Updraft Knot Clan. She found that Duskerin had not been exaggerating when he described a clan full of diversity and talented artists and kindly scholars. She saw the Lightening Dancer's practicing for a festival and imediately asked them if she could design them some costumes.

The dancers were excited to receive new costumes, it had been a while since a talented costume designer had been in their clan. So she set to work and soon delievered to them clothing more fit for their dancing and they were so pleased they told everyone in the clan about her skill.

Once she got her store set up in a glade of bamboo off of the market courtyard, Duskerin started to visit her more for small things. He wanted new socks, his haori ripped, he wanted her opinion on accessories. And soon she realized that his reasons for coming to visit her were transparent excuses so that he could spend time with her.

She paid more attention to her instincts instead of wrapping up her attention in cloth, and realized that he had feelings for her. She thought about the handsome Skydancer, who she had gotten to know as a calm and diplomatic leader, a kind friend, and a patron of beautiful things and realized she could have feelings for him back. She decided to discuss it with him next time he visited.

When that time came he drooped with relief. "I've been trying to get up the nerve to talk about this for a while, but every time I tried I couldn't."

They sat in her shop of bamboo columns for a long time talking, until they finally decided that they might try to make a relationship work. Both were very pleased with the arrangement.

Unfortunately soon after their engagement, before they even had the chance to throw a party with their friends, Teovanth attacked and they were forced to leave behind her little shop and flee to the Fortress of Ends. At that time she considered going home to her clan, but Duskerin convinced her that she wouldn't be safe there. Once he had a foothold in the Windswept Plateau he would begin to eye the rest of the nearby clans with thoughts of blood and conquest.

So she had to rebuild her shop in the ice caves of the Lost Kingdom, she hated the cold colorless place they had come to live. It was full of fear and uncertainty, would they ever be able to go home? Fortunately Duskerin was there, he worked tirelessly with the clan members that survived to keep them calm and hopeful, he did the same at home with Knell.

She wasn't terribly happy, but soon they had her shop reestablished, even if it had a fraction of the resources that she had before. But she did her best, turned her skills toward fashioning fur coats and thick wool socks instead of floaty silken attire. She and Duskerin lived together, because while they had agreed to keep their separate homes in the Windswept Plateau, it wasn't smart or safe to live alone in the Lost Kingdom.

Soon they began laying nests. And out of their hatchlings their daughter Mira decided to stay in the Lost Kingdom near her parents. She inherited her mother's beauty and love of color and crafting. For a long time growing up Knell let Mira help her in the shop, but eventually Mira decided to start her own business making jewelry. Knell was thrilled and helped her establish her business, and even sells some of her daughter's work in her own shop.
