Biography
Probably part of a monster-hunting or adventuring guild of some kind now, since he craves companionship and bonding over a shared goal even more than getting to hunt (though hunting stuff is a plus).
Hatched in the Scarred Wasteland as a Mirror in a huge pack of Mirrors known for their ferocity and hunting prowess. Sunder was as skilled as they come on the hunt, excelling in stealth tactics while still having the stamina and agility to run down prey. It was a classic, if large, Mirror society: hunts were a key part of social life and dictated clan politics. They didn't migrate, but that was just as well; they got their news from a crew of sailors who traversed the Tidelord's sea, as well as brought new goods to trade.
Sunder had a few loves when he was a young adult, but none he settled down with. That is, until the religious order took hold in the clan. The clan matriarch bought into the religion and swept up most of the larger pack with her, including Sunder's own abusive father. Her mate, the former high consort, broke away from the clan with a small group of Mirrors, Sunder among them.
Political talks happened between the greater horde and the splinter pack. At the end of it, his parents and many council members were urging him to join the witch's family by marrying her daughter, Cleave. Sunder wanted no part in this, of course, but the former high consort told him to consider it. There was a chance of a civil war breaking out if negotiations were unsuccessful, and the council had much more strength on their side even discounting the rest of the greater horde. So, Sunder was strong-armed into a loveless marriage.
Cleave had turned herself into a Gaoler to explore the natural tools of the ancient breed, so Sunder was forced to do the same. Undercurrents of tension remained even after the couple had and raised their only daughter, Sabresooth. Still, there was superficial peace, and Sunder remained part of the splinter pack for many years. To his chagrin, Cleave raised their daughter under the teachings and leadership of the council. She would be one of them.
One day, he decided he'd had enough. The greater horde became more engrossed in their religion, the and the council grew even more powerful politically. The splinter preached independence, but they lived in the same lair space and participated in the same hunts -- Sunder found the hypocrisy sickening. He spent years hoarding his wealth until just before he retired. Then, he decided he was going to go out with a bang -- he traded his wealth for a form-changing scroll and became a Banescale, the biggest insult to his Gaoler wife. As he left on his huge, powerful wings, he spat, "Why does a single, unified pack need peace negotiations between them? My job is irrelevant now. Figure yourselves out."
Bought May/22/23 for 6kt. Arrived named "Sunder", a triple basic Gaoler. Received full makeover Jun/18/23.
