Biography
Ilessa (Dragon Age OC) Some call her by the nickname Mouse. She wields the bow well. Almost. Her form is a little shaky, sometimes her arms bend a little too much. She has a dagger, but she can't use it. As wobbly as her firing is, she's only ever useful from the background. She hides in the trees, or far back from opponents, hopefully out of sight. She's too terrified. Too scared for someone who likes to imagine themselves a dragon. It helps her cope. When she's alone she pretends she is strong. Maybe just a small dragon, spitting nothing but sparks, hurting a little but barely doing anything to drive off her foes; to destroy the bad thoughts that like to take over her mind. They tell her she's worthless, taking up space, another mouth to feed. Words she's heard before, from people she called family, no less. But they never cared. A noble family won't care for the daughter of a sister who 'threw her life away' in their own words. All she knew of her mother was the scent of perfume. And aside from that, only rude things, the same of which she heard of her father. If anything she heard worse of him. Somehow "knife ear" was the tamest thing they said of the man. It was a wonder they had kept the child as long as they did. Though, the first moment they found an opening to be rid of her, they were. The girl was just a teen at the time. Slavers don't last long, though, when those who don't approve of their methods are only too happy to stop them in their tracks. They'll never do what they do again. They'll make sure of it. She is 22 now. Nine years to learn. Nine years to know people who don't tell her she should be grateful. Nine years to know people who don't degrade her at every turn. Now she still meets people who, through their good graces, are patient, understanding, and don't ask too little or too much of her. Some days she appreciates it. Some days she wants to have them stop treating her like she's fragile. There are days she's happy and eager to run. And others it takes so much to get out of bed. She's working on it. Day by day. It's easier to do these things when there are people who have your back. Her hands are still shaky when she holds her bow. But, gradually, her hold is getting steadier. |
