The barren wastelands of Plague are a harsh, unforgiving home even to the dragons born on it’s soil. The proudest of Plagues’ dragons relish in this fact, but Flaithri’s opinion of his homeland could not be further removed. A land of flesh and blood may suit carnivorous dragons well but it is near unbearable for Pearlcatchers. Thus, before he was fully grown, Flaithri left the Scarred Wasteland to wander Soreneith in search of a better life. Though he never managed to get very far from home. Traveling to the Tangled wood seemed to be the most logical course of action, or so Flaithri thought: it was much easier to find a meal in such a densely forested area then it was in a land of flesh and bone. However, Flaithri found the Shadow dragons nearly as unpleasant as his homeland; he was used to the directness of Plague dragons and found the tricks played on him by Shadow dragons unnerving at best and distressing at worst and quickly moved onto the next region. The Sea of a Thousand Currents. It wasn’t a simple journey by any means. After finding a mage willing to enchant him with the ability to breathe underwater, Flaithri had the issue of swimming whilst clutching a giant pearl to contend with.Though there was plenty more greenery underwater than in Plague, Flaithri was so unfamiliar with underwater foliage he could not tell what he could and couldn’t eat. He had even greater difficulty finding any of the secretive Water dragons that could help him find a good meal. A few weeks after he had first dived underwater, whilst sitting in a seaweed grove chewing on some slimy but edible leaves, he was caught off guard by a voice asking him what he was doing eating such a tasteless plant. Flaithri had shot upright and saw the voice belonged to a Ridgeback who introduced himself as Cloud. After explaining his predicament to the bemused Cloud, Flaithri was invited to meet Cloud’s clan. Whilst entirely unremarkable to a Water dragon, Flaithri was amazed by the clan's kelp beds and coral gardens. Cloud explained that, like many of the other dragons in the clan, he lead a simple life of farming kelp and fish and would be happy to show Flaithri what plants were edible. After being introduced to Cloud’s clan mates, Flaithri was welcomed into the clan and did not leave until many summers later. Unsurprisingly, the two changed a great deal during this time. Flaithri had become stronger and more agile owing to his heartier diet and new role as a farmer and had become greatly more confident as a result. Cloud, meanwhile, had began to train as a botanist; had began to consider Flaithri more than a friend; had his feelings requited. And had become completely and utterly bored of the Sea of a Thousand Currents. Flaithri was well aware that Cloud wanted to leave their current clan, but he wasn’t expecting to be asked to travel back to Plague with him. Though Flaithri wasn’t thrilled at the prospect at returning to the Scarred Wasteland, he was eventually convinced by Cloud’s explanation that he wanted to try cultivating aquatic plants above ground. Much to Flaithri’s disgust, Cloud explained that the fleshy, wet earth of Plague was the ideal place to do so. They had no particular preference as to where they settled - Cloud was planning to fully terraform their territory - but were eventually decided to settle in their current clan after seeing how deeply it’s members cared for one another. Having grown strong after spending so many years traveling buy swimming and pulling up the most deeply rooted seaweeds imaginable, Flaithri now serves as a warrior and is dedicated to protecting his clan mates. When not guarding them from threats, he can often be found helping his fellow members with odd jobs; he’ll do anything he can to make his friends smile. Having now adopted two wonderful daughters, Blaithin and Zita, Cloud and Flaithri are happier than ever. In truth, now he is free of the struggle to find food, Flaithri almost enjoys living in his homeland again. |
