The first male nocturne born to his parents, Vanyel was doted on a little extra by his mother. Although she knew that such treatment could cause him to behave similarly to his rather immature father, she could never bring herself to stop, cooing at him just how handsome he was multiple times a day.

From the moment he hatched, he took in everything around him with keen eyes, filing it away for later use. Nocturnes are naturally amazing mimics, but his skill in mimicking so young surprised many around him. He would pick up little things missed by others, and was quite adept at reading sticky situations. He's a quick learner for other things as well, likely assisted greatly by his mimicking ability.

Spending time with another young member of the Deep Wind Clan, he picked up a love of art. While Fauncey and his mentor Poplar helped him discover different forms of art, Vanyel picked up whittling and could not be persuaded to try anything else.
