Kelara grew up among three other sisters, so her childhood was never particularly lonesome or boring. She was, however, the one sibling who was most preoccupied with her mother's affliction - the spontaneous pearly gembond her mother had developed after a bad encounter with a shademonster while out on a mission. Although the growth of the gembond appeared contained and stable, it never stopped worrying Kelara that one day it would begin growing again. This spurred Kelara to begin studying stones and gemstones of all kinds. If she could understand them and how they formed naturally, perhaps she could understand more about the gembond affliction itself. Of course, this was somewhat misguided thinking, as magic often has different explanations than nature, but the time spent learning about gems was far from wasted. Today, Kelara is quite adept at jewelcraft, and her renown is only growing with time. Her pieces are said to glow with an inner light, and there are those who specifically seek out her jewels for their power. Some dragons swear that the stones sometimes feel sentient, although others dismiss this as pure superstition. Those who have been close to Kelara and have seen her work with her jewels would say otherwise. There is certainly magic involved when working with these gems - not all of it pure. Frustrated with what the shade did to her mother, Kelara works various shademagic into the gems as petty revenge - she can trap it, enclose it forever, to be worn as nothing more than a trinket. Only time will tell whether this is a good idea. |
