The Wilds are a dangerous place for those untrained in battle. And yet, through the Wilds dragons must go, if they wish to reach the Behemoth and serve at Gladekeeper's side. Our clan is sometimes a waystation for these lost, devoted souls; when they are ready to leave our care, Caleb escorts them safely to the Exalted Altar. He protects them on their journey, and teaches them a few self-defense skills of their own. And yet he does not remember a single one.
This is not Caleb's fault, of course. Names, faces, and identities fade from his Tundra mind like stars in daylight. But sometimes... sometimes a familiar scent finds its way to him from the forest. Or sometimes a dragon will leave Caleb a gift, as thanks, and the gift smells like them. There have been so many dragons who have passed his way that no dragon could remember them all perfectly, but the scents bring back fleeting glimpses and impressions of all the friends Caleb has made, knowing he will never see any of them again.
