She doesn't remember what she is, or how she came to be. All she remembers is waking in a courtyard full of stone dragons. Her body shifted and rumbled as she moved, less a flesh and blood thing than... she had some idea then, that she was meant to be stationary forever. A sentinel. She didn't stay in the courtyard - a graveyard, it felt. Were those dragons always statues? Was she? Had she ever been a dragon? She pondered this questions as she wandered. She was sought out by Hyetiana of the Prisma Reef Clan after a vision, and who was she to question prophesy? She went to join them. |
It wasn't so bad, being living stone. Certainly, she found her place on the reef, tending to the gardens of Vidar. It seemed she was like any other dragon, when it came to it. She laughed, and she found purpose in work, and she longed to hatch young. It all seemed possible, until her two eggs were laid. Even in the Tidelord's domain, her eggs looked like stones, like they could never hold a life within them. The hatchlings were stone, like the dragons of the courtyard. The mages of the clan confirmed: perfectly formed dragons, born as stone; they had never lived, and never would. She would try again, only once. Four eggs, and the same fate, except for one. A tiny hatchling stirred, and cried out for her. A daughter of stone, named for the mountain: Shaletide. |
