“Yes, your Majesty,” he replied in a mocking tone, the crackling flames of the fire he had been roasting herbs and nuts by reflecting in his brown-amber eyes as they met his master's icy blues.
He was not afraid to talk to the king in this way, for he had stopped punishing him for doing so long ago when he realized just how stubborn Fae could be. In fact, it was almost a joke between them now, to talk back to each other and see who could retort with the wittiest comebacks.
Truthfully, Theo really wasn't such a bad guy once you got to really know him and see him in his most vulnerable state. Fae had certainly had worse masters in his past. As rude and awful as he could be, his current "owner" had never really beat him. He never abused him in the way the men before him had.
And within the short time they had been stranded in the woods, the human appeared to be become much nicer and more tolerant of Fae's actions. He wasn't told to do things Elliot could easily do himself as often as he had been back at the palace. He wasn't given an old creaky bed to lie on— they were equals, both laying on the wet grass below them. The king had even offered him a blanket to keep warm.
What Fae didn't know was that King Theodoric wasn't actually coming down with a cold on the freezing nights under the forest canopy.
He was coming to the realization that he had feelings for the fairy he hadn't ever experienced before.
Grumpy, independent, and tsundere as can be - Fae was once King Theodoric's servant. He was once his lover, too. He's seen the good and bad sides of the king, and still, he can't help but still love him. .
