The Dream Walker
enigmatic | mystical | forthright

Her earliest hatchling memories involved her parents anxiously buzzing over an unhatched egg. Curious as to what was causing such anxiety, she wobbled over to the small egg. It didn't seem like anything that should cause her parents to worry, but it continued to do so for several days. At one point her parents took a break from their hovering and she crept up to the egg and laid a very small claw on it's shell. The result was immediate and hairline fractures shivered down the egg. Startled, she fell back behind her brother, thinking she had ruined the egg. Both hatchlings watched as the egg began to hatch. Eventually, a tiny green form finally pushed it's way out of the egg, spilling onto the ground.

The hatchling did not resemble her older brother, but looked exactly like she did. The tiny hatchling turned it's brilliant green eyes to her and in them she saw a small, swirling vortex. A compelling feeling of protectiveness swelled inside and she knew that she had to protect her younger brother from anything and everything that threatened him.

Her intuition wasn't wrong, as her twin spent most of his youth sick and struggling to keep up with the rest of the hatchlings. Sticking close to his side, she rarely left him alone, in fear that he'd be injured or picked on. Sometimes she knew this bothered him, but the alternative seemed worse.

As they grew she found that she never had the calling for any of the traditional jobs in the clan. While her older brother showed a creative streak a mile wide, and her younger brother had the gift of powerful Wind magic, she found herself at a loss. Discouraged, she tried her best to find something she was skilled at, but came up empty time and time again. Her parents encouraged her as much as they could, but she had the distinct feeling that she'd never be good at anything.

One night after a particularly disheartening day, she heard her twin whimper in his sleep and since she was awake anyway, she went over to comfort him. Laying a claw on his shoulder she felt a bit queasy as the world was ripped away from her and she was assaulted by visions of an 11 headed monstrosity chasing her brother through a forest. She tried to put herself between the monstrosity and her brother, but the beast passed through her as if she were made of mist. Here, it seemed, she was only an observer. It didn't take her long to realize that she had somehow been transported into his nightmare. She watched, helpless, as the creature reached out and grabbed her brother, pulling him up and into the mass of heads, all of them with bright, glowing eyes.

She woke up a moment later as the dream faded to her brother's quick breathing and scared eyes. She soothed him gently until he calmed down, explaining that it was just a dream and such monsters didn't exist. He asked her how she knew, and she explained what had happened. He wondered if she could only do this with him, and suggested she tried to do it with other dragons too.

A night later she crept over to her mother's slumbering form and lightly touched her. Again, she was transported into the dream, and when it was over she woke up. Her mother, however, slept on. Taking this as a sign, she decided to offer what services she could to other dragons in the clan, seeing if they wanted her to walk in their dreams and tell them what she saw. She was surprised how many dragons asked for her services, as most couldn't remember their dreams. She could fill in the blank spaces for them, and both she and the other dragons felt more fulfilled because of her skill.

She also found that she was quite adept and interpreting the dreams, and offering ways to make nightmares a thing of the past. Her twin hasn't had a nightmare since she visited his dreams, and both dragons are grateful.
