Biography
Roland The Mage determined | uneasy | adept He remembers the look of surprise on his sibling's faces as he opened his eyes for the first time, and the look of relief and joy from his parents, but he never felt that his birth was anything less than a curse. Small, and often ill he struggled with the most basic physical activity, and flying took him a full month longer than the other hatchlings. His sister was always supportive, offering help and protection from the other hatchlings, but he didn't want her assistance. He wanted to do things himself, and not have to rely on his twin for aid. Yet for all his physical shortcomings, from the first moment he awoke, he felt a stirring deep in his soul. A twisting, gentle feeling that he knew could grow into a violent and amazing power if he could learn to harness it. His father explained that this feeling was the call of the Windsinger, and that it flowed in the veins of all Wind dragons. He asked his twin later if she felt anything like that inside of her and she didn't. Neither did his brother when he asked. Taking this as a sign, he was determined to be the most powerful Wind Mage he could possibly be. While the other hatchlings focused on their physical prowess, he focused on the magical side, and could produce far more powerful and longer lasting spells than anyone else in his age group, and even some of the adults in his birth-clan. He studied harder and longer than all the other hatchlings to the point that his parents started to worry that he was being anti-social...not that he cared. He never felt much love for any of the other dragons he interacted with, aside from his twin. She was well-intentioned, if a little overbearing. He mostly loved his sister for her ability to soothe his nightmares. Before she realized that she could Dream Walk, he suffered from nightmares every night. Horrible visions plagued him of monstrous dragons intent on destroying everything in their path. Sometimes he would dream of terrible cracks forming deep in the earth, swallowing whole clans and leaving nothing remaining. Then there were the ones he couldn't remember where he was left being absolutely terrified of the darkness, convinced that it was a living, breathing thing. When his sister discovered her ability, however, the nightmares finally stopped and he could get adequate rest. The rest allowed him to be sick less often, and to have more energy. He finally caught up with the rest of the hatchlings in size and stature, but his passion remained in the magical winds he could create with hardly any effort. Although he never told anyone, not even his twin, he felt like he was preparing for something as he trained in his magic. Something was going to happen, and although he didn't know what it was, he wanted to be prepared. Maybe, for once, he'd be his sisters protector instead. |
