Brenen resides with his mate, Taffy, in a cave that stands over a series of
mostly-underground hotsprings. The humid air rising from the springs sifts through the rock and warms the cave floor, creating the perfect environment for a heat-loving dragon like Brenen. The water bubbles up in a series of steamy pools outside the cave entrance and Brenen likes to spend time draped over branches, letting the steam warm his belly, chin, and the underside of his wings. It's sometimes difficult for him to keep warm in Root's Reaches. Sunlight has a hard time piercing the tree canopy overhead and the tangle of limbs and leaves are difficult to fly through. The air is humid, but rarely warm, and the hot spring offers the perfect environment for him.
Though Brenen isn't much of a swimmer (he detests water, really), Taffy is,
and Brenen has found other reasons to love the beach. It's certainly not for the weather. The shores around the Tangled Wood are windy, clammy, and cold; it is not the idealic beaches of postcards. Brenen is strictly prohibited from starting fires within the Tangled Wood (one need only ask a clan member about the "Great Forest Fire" to see them shudder with remembered horror), but bonfires on the beach are entirely fair game.
Brenen can most often be found on the beach, either gathering and stacking
driftwood and limbs, in the process of lighting them on fire, or zooming through the resulting heatwave above the flames. His manic cackle-like laugh can be heard echoing over the water, scaring up creatures for Taffy to catch, and chilling to the bone any dragons that happen to be nearby. He and Taffy often fail to make it home to their cave for days on end and instead will either sleep on the beach next to the roaring fires, or travel to other realms looking for new prey and new places to set aflame.
