Biography

Galicia
The Pardoner
Council of Five | Minister of War | Captain of the Guard
Loyalty: Theia | Charge: Her Trident

"I will forgive you for your sins, but your pain does not move me."

Galicia is an imposing figure in the lair. As the Minister of War and Captain of the Guard, it is her role to organise the clan's forces and train its fighters. Under her regime, there is little leeway for indolence or negligence. She learned discipline and skill the hard way, and since there is no force of nature to teach her cadets, who she would never send out unprepared, she has become one herself. Those with more experience and higher posts within her ranks have nothing but respect for her, especially considering her past. She has grown a lot from her prior experiences, though they do make her headstrong and suspicious in forming lasting connections with others.

Therefore, within Verglas Shores, Galicia mostly keeps herself. Self-reliant as she is, she does not like to be neither a burden nor dependent upon others. When not assembling troops and running training exercises, she can be found at home, trying to pick up the habit of reading old tomes on battle strategies. Despite her introversion, Galicia is fiercely loyal to those she loves and admires, most notably to her partner Araki and to Theia, who bestowed upon her the pardon she had always served upon others. Galicia also makes an effort to maintain a good relationship with her Second in Command, Tristan. Though their personalities could not be more different, she respects his abilities and his drive, and he in turn admires her strength and leadership.

History

Galicia was raised by the currents and the waves. She was born to unready parents who's eyes had never met her own. The path had been forged for her to lose, merely another dragon with a quick life and an early death, sunken to the seafloor to serve the Tidelord. Galicia was never one for predetermined futures. Much like the water that birthed her, she learned how to adapt, to change and get the most out of her environment. A warrior at heart, the rough and tumble of her infancy gave way to a skilled dragon, who was not afraid to speak out for what she wanted. Though she was never graceful, nor had any interest or aptitude for the premonitions of her kind, she earned her place in her environment - a fearsome dragoness who was never seen in the same place twice.

Left with few options, she became a mercenary to earn her living. It was quick and dirty work, and allowed her to earn her keep. Her specialty was giving chase, and finding those who did not want to be found, delivering them - always alive - to her requisitors, a practice which earned her the moniker "The Pardoner". The fates had allowed her to keep her life, and she had no intention of returning the favour by stealing any souls that were rightfully theirs.

She met Araki by accident. He was lying with his face in the sand, but his heaving chest announced he had not yet perished. She had approached him with a mixture of caution and curiosity before realising who she was facing. The stories had reached her ears, of the unstoppable monster. The descriptions of his markings were matched exactly. She had raised her trident, and cursed harder than she'd ever done when her moral code forced her to lower it.

She wrapped him up in chains, molded by experience, and was surprised by his submission and passivity. He accepted his fate as her prisoner. She had no definite plan, but she was strong and rational and knew of the payoff that would accompany his delivery. Tracing a venturesome path through the Scarred Wasteland, Galicia planned on delivering him to the Starfall Isles, where he could be studied and prodded, but where she thought he'd have the greatest chance of remaining alive.

They travelled solely under the cover of night, to avoid attracting any unwanted attention. Their journey was interrupted by a particularly nasty pack of Mirrors, who relied on their numbers to overpower Galicia. Araki broke through his chains like a hatchling picking flowers from a field. Together, they managed to fight off the assailants. And they'd laughed after the battle. Neither could remember the last time they'd laughed.

He did not have an issue admitting he was smitten. After years of living in a haze, he'd found his charge. She never revealed hers. It was personal, but Araki had seen the way she slept with her weapon, how she cleaned it with vigour and how it seemed to be an extension of her own arm. He didn't say a word. The two changed course to the Southern Icefields, where they hoped Araki would not be recognised.

Straying far from the conquered lands, they decided to stop their endless pilgrimage when their first nest was ransacked. They were found by Nymeria wandering the woods, and she silently guided them to Verglas Shores, sensing in them a sadness much like her own, before disappearing into the trees. When they found themselves face to face with Theia, they spared no details. She allowed them to stay as a gesture of appreciation for their honesty.

At first they were merely citizens, but they proved their worth by taking charge of training the stead's soldiers. Little by little, they gained Theia's trust, proving themselves until she believed in them enough to bestow upon them both positions of considerable power as an act of gratitude for their service. In return, they gave her their loyalty, without so much as a second thought.
