From when he was a hatchling, Cinder knew that he wanted to be a coli fighter—and more than that, one of the legendary Mire Flyers, the solitary stalkers and trainers that specialize in the perils of the misty wetlands. Getting there, unfortunately, is proving to be difficult. His current team consists of his brother, Virenze, and the hot-tempered, impetuous Marrakesh, and Cinder is finding their clashing combat styles to be a real trial. In particular, Marrakesh drives him crazy—how is he supposed to stalk and slink up on their foes when a gigantic imperial goes roaring headlong into battle? And then blames him for distracting her when she almost steps on him? Virenze sympathizes but keeps wanting to plan out group tactics, and it just isn’t working for Cinder. Unfortunately, there aren’t any unattached coli fighters at his current skill level, so switching partners doesn't seem to be an option. (The new team of Anatta, Taiissa, and Impiri are catching up, but they’re a tight enough unit that Cinder is unlikely to find a place with them.) Already introverted and moody in nature, Cinder has become even more so. He spends a lot of time alone in the marshy forests south of the clan’s main territory, practicing his skills. In social situations, he’s primarily an observer, although he does occasionally come out with a cutting comment, especially when he feels that someone’s full of fewments. His dry, sardonic irony hasn’t exactly made him popular. Despite all this, he’s deeply attached to his family and tolerates (not at all unwillingly) their highly demonstrative affection, at least when they’re alone at home together. He has a particular soft spot for Taksiz, his adopted little brother, and although he often declares that Taksiz is too “squishy” and needs to toughen up a little, in truth he loves him just the way he is. Facts – His favorite food is eggs. (No, not dragon eggs, although sometimes his deadpan “of course not” when asked about it makes dragons who don’t know him well wonder nervously. He finds this very funny.) – Thinks tadhop beanies are hilarious, for some reason. Fictions — Familiar Cinder believes that his heartred croaker is his spirit animal. Nobody is quite sure what this means. The red-breasted hainu Lassa he won for himself fighting in the Bamboo Falls.
