Whenever Beryl left home to work for the Prince, Nico was absolutely fuming. There wasn't a bone in his body that wasn't rattling with rage all twenty-four hours of the day. He would exclaim to any passerby who stopped to hear it that his brother was throwing away his integrity as a thief and conforming to authority. It was no secret how anti-authority he was, or how anti-Prince that he was. No matter how much he carried on, though, Beryl found a way to laugh it off and change the topic.

Nico stuck to the life he considered to be the real and true criminal experience. He squatted in an abandoned building and declared it home sweet home while living only off his own pickpocketing, by his own rules. He was so dedicated and disciplined by his craft that his name floated around and brought freelance offers to his doorstep, all of which he refused. Though he may have felt noble in those deeds, somewhere in the back of his mind he noticed the hunger pangs and illnesses much more than he imagined his fraternal twin did in his cozy life.

Despite the pride Nico possessed, Beryl happened to visit frequently enough that he didn't have to suffer too much. He always just happened to have medicine or a hot meal or a warm blanket. Of course, Nico knew exactly what he was doing. But he had a soft and vulnerable spot for him and how genuine he was. These convenient gifts were something hard to refuse when accompanied by such a warm smile.
