Verinagi used to be known by a different name, an age and a half ago. She was born to a humble clan based somewhere in the expanses of the Stormcatcher's desert, and with them is where she spent her adolescence. Life in the small village was hard work, but the labor made her grow strong, and she was happy.

It was not to last, of course. Eventually, their little plot of land attracted the attention of a small band of raiders, and the village paid their tithe to the gang with blood. The young guardian would not go quietly, however, and when eventually the raiders subdued her, it was decided that, in their eyes, she deserved a fate much worse than death.

They brought her before the implacable Lady Katja, the most powerful clan leader for miles around. Katja's vicious arena matches were sometimes used to extinguish the lives of particularly troublesome slaves, and the raiders could think of no more entertaining way to see the life of their kins' murderer snuffed out.

Katja, intrigued by the still-bloodstained guardian they had brought before her, agreed to buy the girl and send her to the arena. She also decided that she had grown tired of bandits rampaging through her territory with no consequence, and the following day, the guardian met her first opponents in the arena: the slavers that had burned her village.

And, like Katja had anticipated, she excelled. Her old life had been drowned in a sea of blood, and she was given a new name; Verinagi, the reckoner, Katja's golden beast.

Over the years, life as a gladiator became less of a desperate struggle and more of a sport. Sponsors showered her in gifts, and she became a favored champion among the Horde's upper echelon, alongside Mananagi. She began to hone a craft she had picked up before her enslavement; paintmaking. Her paints slowly evolved from crude artist's tools into beautiful, magic-infused warpaints that made her nigh-untouchable in battle.

It was during a fight in the arena that Verinagi encountered something that she had, honestly, expected to never have to deal with: her charge. In the stands, she caught sight of Altjira, a skydancer with peculiar abilities, and Verinagi found herself quite taken with him. Too taken. It took a few days before Katja heard news of this, and she then held Altjira in her citadel against his will, no doubt plotting to use his connection to her prized gladiator for some nefarious purpose- but these machinations never came to fruition.

Verinagi's life had changed once again in the most abrupt and brutal way possible. Lady Katja, her captor and richest sponsor, was assassinated in the night- a development that, understandably, satisfied Verinagi a great deal. In the chaos that followed as the Horde divided itself into opposing sides and began to disagree with each other- violently- Verinagi was freed from the arena by Rook, a small gaggle of his allies, and a somewhat reluctant Altjira, and the group fought their way to freedom.

Since then, the group has made their way to the southern icefields, into Jarl Sigrdrifa's holdings, and more or less settled down. Quite delighted to have found a charge, Verinagi has been unusually bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, in the eyes of those who are more familiar with her, and even Altjira has warmed up to his unasked-for escort. At long last, things seem to be finally working out in her favor.
