The strangers were young and small, and they were careful. The patrol might have missed them entirely had it not been for the foreign tang of ozone in the air hovering about their hiding place. They crouched among the skeletons of the plague dead, little more than skeletons themselves as they bristled and threatened up at the approaching scouts. The young Guardian met their questions with glowering silence, wings spread protectively over the malnourished Wildclaw and Imperial pressed against his sides. He followed only at the urgings of his two companions, and kept a wary silence even after the comfort of a full meal and a warm lair.
As the months passed and the trio recovered and grew into their full stature, Sota proved slowest of the three to trust. While Riku and Veritas readily laughed and joked with their adoptive clanmates, the Guardian simply answered when spoken to, and offering only the barest of answers. His thorny demeanor made him difficult to place within the clan. Would-be pupils and sparring students were either rebuffed by silence or dismissed after mere minutes by a gruff word. Less patient members of the clan began to doubt his place among their ranks. However, their concerns were quickly silenced by the Guardian’s prowess in battle and reconnaissance. Sota’s years as a wanderer lent him keen eyes and keener fangs, and he earned his place with actions where words failed him. To this day, Sota is neither the most approachable nor the best liked among the clan. His gruffness and willingness to speak his mind can offend new and old acquaintances alike. But while he keeps a thorny demeanor around strangers, his tenderness for the companions of his youth is obvious. He is often found curled together with Riku and Veritas, tail twined about theirs as they share stories and laughter and love. In those unguarded moments, even the bitterest of enemies cannot find it in themselves to be angry with the Guardian as they see his thorniness and worry fall away. (Bio written by Empee) |
