A R R I V A L

______ Capreae arrived at Clan Bhaga on a fair afternoon, with wind sweeping over the dust and weeds surrounding the Cairnstone Rests. She moved slowly, striding away from the horizon in slow, measured steps. From a distance, Leonidas--on watch near Mt. Bhaga's peak-- watched the dragoness approach and eventually stop precisely in front of the Clan's hidden doorway. When he confronted her, and asked her her name, Capreae simply replied, "Take me to Usarna."

______ After the two tundras met, they convened for hours, speaking quietly to one another in Usarna's private caves. The next morning, the clan found that a new cave entrance had been bored into the rock--likely with magic-- and that Capreae had taken root. Her room was small, not terribly tall but wide, and floored with pure, rich soil. The ceiling and walls were nonexistent on one side, sprawling out into bare pebbles and rock, but already a woven net of vines protected the cave from wind and rain.

______ Soon, plants began to grow in the dark soil within the damp cave. Sunlight was controlled with another net of vines, and a few fabric gifts from the clan weaver. Capreae wore some of these gifts as well, carefully tending the sprouts and plants that had taken root in her quiet, humid home. She brings in new plants all the time, curling new tendrils into the weave of her makeshift walls and clothes, encouraging bushes of grapes to climb higher on their trellises to make room for new growth down below. Nowadays, most of the ground is either deep moss or green, lush grass.

______ In exchange for her room, it seems that Capreae has loaned her considerable magical abilities to Clan Bhaga. She works plant magic on all of Courin's medicinal plants and Furnace's gourmet herbs to help them through heat and drought. She gives gifts of flowers to newly-mated pairs, and weaves the blossoms in hatchlings' fur. However, her magic is good for more than just plants: Capreae casts powerful boundary spells--some of the best that Courin has ever seen. Her magical boundaries keep the hatchlings out of toxic alchemical ingredients and potent medicines; they secure doors to restricted areas, such as the Clan Vault and Driftwood's Armory; they even demarcate Clan Bhaga's territory, surrounding the entire mountain and a good stretch of tombs with a dim but glowing green line. She has even been known to protect the clan with plants; she errs on the side of liberal thistle usage, and should an errant dragon tread upon them, well, that's what they get for not being cautious...

PLANT MAGIC

______ During boundary-casting ceremonies--which are few and far between, usually occurring once each year to renew the strength of the boundaries--Capreae dons bird-skull garb, which she claims to be a tradition of her birth clan's. Naturally this causes a great deal of gossip among the clan, with many dragons openly arguing about where this curious, powerful dragoness came from. Capreae will never tell, though, and she finds that she likes best the dragons that have never asked at all about her past. Occasionally, possibly due to a nostalgic moment of weakness, she wears the bird apparel for special occasions, such as a birth or death ceremony.

______ Keeping up the energy for the boundary magic year-round is somewhat difficult, and Capreae's plants have also been a source of sustenance on more strenuous days. The barriers wick a bit of power away over the course of a day, but her weakest days are undoubtedly after barrier renewals. She tries to stick to doing one type of renewal each month, to spread them out and mitigate their effects. Usually Capreae times them for just before festivals. While the clan is out merrymaking, they leave the lair blissfully quiet, perfect for some rejuvenating time with her plants. Though, this has occasionally gotten out of control...there was that one Greenskeeper's where Usarna returned to find the entire mountain exploding with Jadevine and Peppermint. No one could stand the smell of mint for weeks afterward...

______ Her final role for the clan is to serve as its Cleric in battle. Although she has little energy to spare on spellcasting days, she knows that she is one of the few magically-inclined dragons with the strength to fight the clan's strongest enemies: the creatures in the Golem Workshop. On occasions when it is necessary, she flies with Leonidas into battle, usually bringing along a particularly troublesome trainee that Driftwood has no patience for. Although the fights are gruesome by Capreae's standards, and she can barely stomach the foul stench of dripping oil and grease, she knows that her clan will benefit, and that at the very least it will allow her to catalogue the strange new plants she finds creeping along the workshop floors.
