Biography

Yin was a brooding, isolated dragoness who rarely smiled or spoke to anyone except for her brother. She had a bit of a short temper, and dragons would always know to be weary of her whenever she walked into a room even if she hadn’t done anything to them. She was content like this, and actually enjoyed their fear a little.

She was the opposite of her brother, whom was a bright, cheery dragon with a love for adventure. Sure, she found him annoying sometimes because of their clashing personalities- but she still loved him dearly.

They were like light and dark; they had many differences but one couldn’t live without the other. And the two were happy like this. The siblings cared about one another very much, and would be by each other’s side no matter what. They thought things would never change; but they were wrong. Oh so wrong.

It was early in the morning when Yin’s side has poked relentlessly for fifteen minutes straight. Her brother, Yang wanted her to get up so they could go exploring. She honestly didn’t feel like getting up, and was about to snap at her brother for being so annoying this early in the morning.

But as soon as her red eyes landed on his, she already knew that he had won this battle. With a heavy sigh and a small irritated snarl, she agreed to go adventuring with him.

Her brother gave her one of his famous grins before pulling her into a tight hug and exclaiming ‘thank you!’ with such happiness and vigor it was almost infectious. Almost.

She grumbled a ‘whatever’ in return before half-hugging him back before he rushed out of the lair. Yin rolled her crimson eyes and let a small smile slip over her features; she didn’t know how in the name of the Plaguebringer he had so much energy to burn. Normally, she would be asleep until noon. But, today would be different, and if that made Yang happy, then so be it.

The two wandered their own clan’s territory for a while, which was nothing new to them. A stone here, a tendril there, some sort of odd Plague flight creature scuttling over yonder… just normal everyday things they always saw. Yin was about to open her mouth to suggest that they just head back and catch up on sleep instead of wandering around out here like idiots; but she was quickly cut off when the ground beneath her claws gave out.

The dark Skydancer gave a startled yelp as her body went tumbling tail over horns down a small passage way that had been hidden by weak tendrils and dead leaves. Yin hurriedly stumbled up, wanting to get away from the entrance before-

A heavy weight came toppling down on top of her, thus pinning her to the ground and making her temper flare up.

Too late.

“Yang, you moron! Get off of me!” she growled, squirming from underneath her brother as he sat there and gawked at something like a dead fish.

“Yang! Can you hear me!? Move your fat rump before I toss it down another hole!” The lighter colored dragon continued to sit there for another moment or two before a huge grinned spread across his face. Much to Yin’s relief, the weight on her back vanished and she was being tugged into a standing position.

“C’mon Sis!” Yang exclaimed, giving her paw another gentle tug in the direction of huge underground waterfall that rushed into a lake right beneath it. Various rocks and ledges jutted out from the side walls and on the wall behind the rushing water, creating unique paths for the water to run down. The large area was filled with natural sunlight that was able to slip through the breaks and cracks in the ceiling, creating various hues of green and blue to dance across the water. Hatchlings around their age were diving off of the top of the waterfall and into the greenie white-foamed lake below while their parents lounged on the side ledges.

Yin scowled at the sight of the other dragons. She forcefully yanked her paw out of her brother’s grasped and her thoughts flow out in words without thinking about it twice.

“Are you crazy?! I am not going in there and interacting with those loud, annoying, obnoxious brats! You can go splash around like a ninny if you want, but I’m staying here.” She growled, letting her body weight drop to the ground with a loud ‘thump’.

She watched as Yang’s face turned into a small frown. The Skydancer hated to admit it, but the sight made her heart wrench in guilt and sadness. She softened her gaze and began to speak to him in a gentle tone. He was an exception. The only exception.

“You can go, just be careful. I might go in a little later, okay?” His face brightened again, and she could once again feel his happy aura seeping out of him. He nodded excitedly,

“Sure!”

And just like that, he was off in a flash, laughing and playing in the water with the other dragons. Yin felt her sour mood lift a little at the sight. She loved her brother to pieces, there was no denying that.
---

A few hours later when the cave became dark due to the sun’s movement, the dragon mother’s and father’s began to call their hatchlings back to shore before leaving through a tunnel.

Yin hefted herself out of the water, shaking her drenched feathers as she did so. She was beginning to wish she would have just stayed in a corner the entire time. But she did have to admit, she liked the cavern more now than she did before. It was peaceful where everyone was gone.

Well, almost everyone.

She scowled at the three hatchlings lounging by her brother at the top of the waterfall. She didn’t like them at all. She watched as her brother gave her a wide grin and waved cornily at her.

Yin couldn’t help but give him a small smile back as he did so. Her smile quickly faded though as one of the hatchlings behind Yang shifted a little and began to move his arm in a shoving motion towards the Skydancer.

“Yang! Move! Watch out!”

She knew he didn’t hear her though. He was already halfway down the falls by the time she managed to get her warning out. Yin could only watch in horror and panic as her brother’s form fell. She didn’t know what to do! She couldn’t fly far, so she couldn’t catch him or soften his fall or anything!

She cringed and gasped when her brother’s skull made the most horrible sound that had ever heard. She was almost positive that would have ended him, If not for his scream of agony before it was cut short when his light colored body smashed into the waters below.

Yin sprang into action at that point. She dove into the icy cold waters before beginning to paddle feebly towards her brother’s sinking form. But she wasn’t the only one in pursuit of him. Some sort of creature was rapidly approaching his limp form, mouth open wide and eyes glowing yellow.

“Yang!” She yelled in her panic, watching as her brother’s eyes fluttered shut before he began to sink faster. That thing was going to get him!

A shrill whistle broke her out of her panicked state for a brief second. It was one of the dragons on top of the falls.

The creature coming towards her beloved brother closed its gaping mouth before sliding the hatchling onto it’s back and bringing him to shore.

Yin didn’t have enough time to get a good look at the creature before it disappeared back into the water. She didn’t care though; all that mattered was her brother.

The female had managed to drag her unconscious sibling back to the lair so that the healers could look him over. Thankfully, they said he would be fine and would make a full recovery in three weeks.

He didn’t make a full recovery though. He became distant form other dragons, quiet, mopey, rarely smiled or made jokes…

Yin saw his change in behavior, and didn’t like it at all. And when it never got better, she tried her best to make him happy again. Having two mopey, quiet siblings wouldn’t do them any good.

The female forced herself to be as happy, positive, and outgoing as her brother was before the accident. And after a while she didn’t even have to force it anymore, she knew she had to be strong for her brother.

And that was okay.
