Sad and wishful.

History
Growing up in a deeply religious clan left its marks. Ever since her first day in the world the other members of her former clan were convinced that she was part of both the physical world and the spirit world. Her mother would encourage her daily to meditate and try to communicate with the dead, and Mirana obeyed. This was the only life she knew, she couldn't have friends or play nearly as much as the other kids because there was no risking weakening her ability, said the elders. It was too precious for the clan.

Several times a week dragons would come to her to request to communicate with their deceased loved ones. Her mother, warmly welcoming them all, never realized, or cared about how much it drained her young daughter. She was depressed, wanted her ability for herself only and was considering isolating herself in a cave for the rest of her life. She knew her mother wouldn't understand or even care, and she had no close friends she could trust enough to vent her feelings to. poor Mirana.

After almost a year of this treatment, she saw her opportunity. Her mother had gone to pay a visit to some rich cousins, and she had about an hour of free time. This was so rare Mirana barely was able to scramble to get a small bag of food and a cup of water into a bag, then she hurled herself off the Cloudsong and into the Twisting Crescendo. Only then did she realize that because she was cooped up her entire life, she had never to learned to fly. She gathered up all the will she had built up over the years, and commanded her body to fly. She said her best guess for what happened when telling the story afterwards was that because she was a skydancer and a wind dragon, she flew.

Looping and twirling, enjoying the feel of the air under her wings. That is, until she got tired. Spiraling dangerously, she realized that she was over the ocean with nowhere to go.
Looking around frantically, she saw a small ice floe, and dove towards it. As she hit the small iceberg, she felt something crack in her head, and she fell unconscious. When she woke up, a clan seemed to be tending to her wounds. While she was enjoying the hospitality of this ice clan, she carefully tested her ability to communicate with the dead. It was gone. After a short recovery period, she flew back to the mainland, thinking that her birthclan could see her as she really was, not as a machine that could do things for it without end.

When she got there, they were overjoyed. They put her right back where she was, trying to get her to continue to be their necromancer. When she told them that she had lost the ability but would be happy to take another position, they cast her out. They took some of the warm coats the ice clan had given her, and pushed her off the edge of the lair towards the sea. She was shocked, but was able to flap her wings to slow the fall. Landing on the beach near the fishpine reef, she lay down and cried. Draconia found her there, not moving.

They brought into the water, and put her in the healing room. After a few hours, they got Mirana to eat, and to sit up. It took them longer to get her to swim around, but they eventually did. The dragons brought her to the clan leader, a proud guardian named Sparkles. They asked whether she would be allowed to stay in the clan, and Sparkles said that because Ana had recently left, she could stay. Afterwards, Mirana requested a private audience with the leader.

After telling Sparkles her story, she asked if she could have a new name, for her old one was only connected with bad memories. The clan leader agreed that it was a valid request. "I rename thee Iolite, for you have many facets when held up to different situations. May you live up to this name, and feel proud of it and your new clan when the time comes."

Iolite felt happiness, leaving her past behind. In her new clan, she helps out however she can, despite refusing to leave the water.
