Biography
Truncate
Truncate loves music and pop culture and having fun. They are the life of every party, even parties that aren't really parties. They have a bit of a macabre aesthetic and are strangely comfortable with creepy stuff, but they know this is niche and try not to freak people out with it. They can get a little exhausting at times but they're just really passionate about the things they're interested in. They can talk your ear off about a lot of topics but they're mostly quiet about themself unless they're close to you. You could say they're a little secretive despite how outgoing they are.
They have multiple invented stories they cycle through when people ask about the history behind their lost leg. Clan members have heard them all by now but know better than to ask for the real story. Some things are best left in the past, especially things that can upset even easy-going Truncate. The truth is an ugly story to do with their old lair, the corruption of their breathing spell, and subsequent gruesome exile. Truncate is glad to have it in their past.
Considering how little they talk about themself, it's easy to be fooled into thinking there's not much to Truncate's personality besides their many weird interests. It's a misunderstanding Truncate doesn't seem to mind enough to correct. A lot of people find Truncate a bit flakey and easily distracted, but they are quick to jump to the defense of others in a situation that doesn't put them at risk of triggering their corrupted spell. They're very sensitive to the mood of those around them and are often the first to try to cheer up someone who has been sad for a while. Often with obscure music and colorful trinkets and sweets.
Only Cadantine has seen Truncate display the corrupted breathing spell before, and she doesn't talk about it. They originally met just after Truncate first emerged from the Sea of a Thousand Currents, the wildclaw half feral and recently missing one leg, the Shade stitched into their spell like a parasite trying to rewrite the magic to do its bidding. Despite her training in Shade-defense, Cadantine took pity on Truncate and helped them regain control of their magic and their body, and when she felt confident they wouldn't revert into something dangerous, she took them under her wing and brought them back to the lair to recover. The two of them have grown extremely close ever since, newcomers sometimes mistaking them as mates, something Truncate finds hilarious. Truncate's choice to fight beside Cadantine in Shade-defense is due to both their trust in Cadantine and their hope to be able to help others in similarly vulnerable positions as they had originally found themself.
Torstol and Truncate's interests don't match up very much but Truncate's bond with Cadantine often has them checking in on Torstol and helping her in any way she needs. They're happy to do it. Harleyterrors always wants to pick Truncate's brain about water magic, but Truncate doesn't know much about scrying or soothsaying. They remember water magic as dark and uncomfortable, and trying to explain that to Harleyterrors rarely sticks. They have a deeper grasp of it than they let on, but they prefer the freedom and simplicity of wind magic. #windsinger4lyfe. Truncate keeps an eye on Aurax. They don't interact a lot and they can go weeks without seeing each other, but Aurax knows she can go to Truncate if she needs something from the clan and Truncate has investment in Aurax's weird quest to figure out her place in the world.
