He saw the shade slowly ooze its way through the land they had made together, and wrap tightly around his mate. Though he tried to reason, Akiha would not faulter in her belief that training warriors was the only way that they could protect themselves from the beasts and other clans. How had paranoia sprouted so deeply within her, when they hadn't been attacked even once by either?

Mambo spent countless nights pleading with Akiha, begging her to release the children she'd stolen and to move somewhere new with him. She only grew more irritated with him as days passed, and then one night she even lashed out at him, damaging one of his front frills. He stopped speaking after that, despair growing within him. When he saw Eve and Narcrath change and be consumed by the shade as well, he knew he had no choice.
He had to run.

And although it broke his heart to abandon his love and the children, he knew it was only a matter of time before he was consumed as well; or worse, sacrificed to The Shadow Binder like so many other hatchlings.

He turned his back on Clan Enyo and vowed never to return, changing his name and wandering towards the Glade Keeper's domain.
I never wanted things to end up like this...
