Biography
I will keep writing in here. It does not seem like the most important thing, given my current situation, but I fear that it is all that keeps me sane, this habit and comfort. Pearlcatchers have their pearls; I have this. |
AINSLEY
CLAN FOUNDER | HEALER | SCRIBE |
Ainsley is a healer (well-taught) and sub-par nature mage, forced out of her birth clan but does not understand why. (All her nest-mates were sent away as well, something about their clutch being tainted by the Shade.) High-strung and often stressed, very thoughtful and introspective. Writes often in her journals (entries will be posted here). Determined to put her past behind her, but unable to forget being chased away from her home. Dedicated healer who will take care of anyone in need. — Ainsley’s past clan was extremely religious, led by a shaman that led strict rituals over every part of their lives and worked within the confines of heavy superstition. Ainsley’s life seemed normal at first, and she and her nest-mates were raised as any other new members of the clan. They spent their youngest days playing with the hatchling caretaker and learning the basics of being a dragon (simple motor skills, how to walk and fly and use the innate magic flowing through their bodies). They all went through simple schooling to learn to read and write and think critically of the world around them (and had the superstitions of their clan strongly beaten into them), and as they matured they were given the freedom to shadow other dragons of the clan, to find their passions in life and their role in the clan. It was a happy time, a joyful existence. The clan was relatively peaceful; they were insular and didn’t have much interaction with other clans and creatures (besides the very specific messengers and ambassadors), so the lair was Ainsley’s whole world. She discovered her talent for the healing arts early on. The various methods and intricacies of the practices (both magical and mundane) fascinated her, and the clan shaman gladly took her under-wing to train her. (Every dragon in the clan was taught basic survival skills and healing such as how to properly bandage or dress a wound and what herbs were best to take for fevers or chills, but the deeper knowledge was reserved for only those who greatly wished to pursue it.) Ainsley wrote down everything, storing what information she could not manage to absorb into her mind (so overwhelmed and so eager to learn everything) in her meticulous journal. It became such a habit for her that even her everyday experiences made it into the tightly-packed pages, daily entries both cataloged her recent lessons and studies as well as all of her thoughts. She took great pleasure in writing; it seemed to her that all of the emotion that she could not properly portray to non-fae with just her voice came out clear and pristine in her writing. Unbenownst to Ainsley, one of her siblings who had pursued training as a scavenger and scout had a run in with a tengu while out on their own one evening. It did not end well. They were discovered wandering and raving and tainted by the corven’s magicks and the patrol quickly brought them back to the shaman in utmost secrecy. Despite intense ritual cleansing and healing, little could be done to return them to how they once were, and their unfortunate state was taken as a dark sign. The shaman came to the conclusion that the reason they had been so susceptible to the pagan magic was that they had been already infected by the shade from birth. By extension, that meant that all of their nest-mates were similarly infected, slow-ticking time bombs just waiting and biding their time. It was not considered extreme to the highly zealous clan to chase them away from the clan then and there. It was seen as the only possible course of action, and no one - not even those who were closest to the young dragons - hesitated when the order went out. In fact, many considered in merciful that they were merely banished and not outright killed. Their existence was erased from the clan memory, and life in the lair quickly went back to normal as soon as the offending dragons were well beyond the territory’s boundaries - but it would never be the same for Ainsley and her siblings, now lost, confused, and alone for the first time in their lives. |
