Ikaroa
The Empath
Senses and controls other dragons' emotions Ikaroa was born under a full harvest moon, and with that, strong, strange magic. Her parents told her what it meant: The Windsinger had chosen her. With training, she was able to learn control and she became quite powerful. With just one touch, she could influence other dragon’s emotions. Her parents called it a blessing - others were not so sure. Ikaroa wanted to believe her parents. They claimed their approval and they encouraged her, but she quickly learned that other dragons were not appreciative of her skills. In fact, one particularly ticked-off Coatl was so offended and distraught that she lashed out and struck at Ikaroa. The Coatl was swiftly punished by the Clan elders, but she left a permanent scar on the Imperial’s face - a mark which Ikaroa hides to this day by always wearing a mask to cover up. After this incident, Ikaroa knew it was time to move on. She packed her things, her bag of herbs and a spellbook her mother had passed on to her. After a brief farewell with her parents, Ikaroa departed. She did not travel far before she found another Clan to take her in. They were quick to accept her, with a big of influence from her. It seemed that her reputation preceded her: “That scarred dragoness who controls emotion,” she heard them say. Fortunately, her face was masked. She did not want to lose her new home so soon - fear of being chased away convinced her it was a good idea to stay hidden. She made up a fake identity with a false background, hoping to clear herself of any connection to her Clan. And with a subtle tail-swipe here, a friendly nudge there, she was able to keep her new Clanmates from wanting to chase her out immediately. It was not long before she learned of what this Clan thought of the “scarred dragoness” whose tales were making their way around the plains. The Nya Clan praised her, and hoped that her magic would one day grace their presence. Hearing how adored she was among this Clan, she could not help but reveal herself. Instantly, she was a celebrity in the Clan, and she could not have asked for anything more. She wrote home to her parents, telling them that she was happily settled - but she did not say where she was, nor did she admit to being so close to home. If word got out that such a powerful Imperial was nearby, her Clan would be attacked. And even though she has made a promise to her Clanmates not to use her powers on them without their consent first in return for their acceptance of her, she knows that her enemies would never believe her. Over time, tales of her wonder faded to fire-side stories, until even the newer members of the Nya Clan did not know the scarred dragoness lived alongside them. Fame and glory have faded, but Ikaroa does not mind too much. |
