Celeste is one of the highest regarded dragons in the clan. Whilst she doesn't have much impact in anyone's stories, her quiet grace commands respect and attention. Her dignity inspires the other females within the clan, and her constant presence comforts the hatchlings. Often when a hatchling is having night terrors, she will come and lie down with them, her celestial glow gently illuminating the room.

But despite this, she almost never looks down. Her gaze is attached permanently to the stars, a fascination she was born with. She constantly searches the stars, and studies their alignment. Her eyes certainly get tired, and she is very longsighted, resulting in an almost terrified grace. What others mistake as a delicate placing of feet is actually her gingerly walking and hoping she doesn't step on someone or something. Therefore she doesn't move much, to limit the risk of breaking something.

Often dragons come to her for their horoscopes, or for a prediction of their futures, which Celeste is more than happy to give. She loves the happy stories, and savours the good news. She just wishes some good news will come her sister's way.

━━━━━━━━━━━━ l o r e ━━━━━━━━━━━

Celeste, named after the heavenly bodies which she spends her time studying, is a sweet little lady. Brought to the world on July the 14th, many years ago to the parents of Black Light Hatchery, Celeste saw the stars when she hatched, and rarely looks away. She is a rare and special dragon. Celeste is only one of nine unexalted dragons with her colours. She is the only imperial and the only dragon with her gene +color combo. She knows she pulls it off too, even if finding suitable apparel is a pain. She is one of the last remaining dragons of the original clans, having been there since Voltair was leader. While the new dragons are blurry, and unfocused, Celeste will still sit with them in her library and listen to their troubles. She's lived for many years, and seen many things, and her guidance is often taken very heavily.

Celeste came to this clan not long before a hatchling called Zeona arrived. With similar colors, the two proclaimed themselves sisters, and very rarely seperated. They loved each other, and while Celeste looked to the sky, Zeona looked to the ground. Lightning was her true calling, however, and so Zeona went off to serve the Stormcatcher, and fight for him. She stayed close to Celeste for many years, but eventually went off to train as a mercenary. Letters from Zeona say she's in a clan close to the Tempest, where she was born.

When a little crippled girl was brought in by Lira, the clan mother, Celeste fell in love again. Being only a little skydancer, Lira passed ownership of the girl, called Flossy, over to Celeste. Celeste and Zeona raised the blind girl like a sister, and loved her truly. Celeste listens to what Flossy says and guides her mentally, Zeona watched where she walked and guided her physically, and between the three of them, they rely on each other to live a truly independent life. Every night, when Flossy was asleep, Celeste looked to the stars and prayed. When she received her telescope from the Arcanist, she used it to document what she now knows as the shade, on the edge of all horizons. It's too far to be of any danger, but she still writes down its size and location. It's her duty to the Tribe.

The shadow is not the only thing worrying Celeste. Zeona has noticed too. Flossy is growing larger and larger. She was always the largest out of the trio, but now she's getting bigger. She's always hungry too, so hungry. Celeste and Zeona feed her and feed her, but she begs for more. Scratches appear on her body every day, welts and scabs rising, and every day Celeste and the healers bandage her up, but they quickly become soaked with blood. She smells too, of rot, and her scales fall off like wilted rose petals. They've had to move her to a part of the grounds where she won't be seen or smelt by the others, and the healers can access her easily. Not much pulls Celeste's gaze from the sky. Her sister's state is easily more important than her stars.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Flossy's problems were beginning to climax, and she, along with an empathetic skydancer, had narrowed down the source of the problems. It was in the Tribe with them. Another imperial, under the skin of a light priestess, had coalesced in the Tribe and was sapping the life out of her targets. She was powerful, too powerful to take down, and Celeste was of no condition to fight. She had taken a name that cruelly mocked Celeste, and used it to attack her. Myopia. Blindness. It was with Celeste’s blindness as a shield she had been draining the blood from Flossy, using it in her poisons, and feeding her worms in order to fuel her immune system.

Myopia had refused to attack Celeste, deeming her blood ‘inferior’ and a waste, and despite Celeste’s calls for action, no one had come to save the dying girl. So she took it upon herself to change Flossy.

Sahara, a skydancer with the ability to see the assassin but no physical fighting ability, had taken Flosy in her care. In a race against time, Sahara had found the scrolls needed to change Flossy’s physical form, and make her into a creature useless to Myopia’s poisons. And so Celeste did it. As the sun set, as Myopia travelled on death’s wing, as Flossy’s energy gave out, a star fell. Celeste watched it fall, hitting Flossy and enveloping her in a sea of light. It burned Myopia, who had rushed to protect her from its impact, and she spun away screeching. Hissing and scratching, Myopia scratched at Flossy’s snakelike body, inflicting wounds wherever she could. But instead of red imperial blood, fell worms. Myopia’s worms fell from the body and burrowed away from the light that shone from her wounds.
Celeste tried to focus, but all she saw were bloody shapes. Black upon white, a gold body screaming, and light. So much light. She sat and prayed to any god that would hear her, eventually closing her eyes until all she could see was black. Myopia had fled in the night, and Sahara had taken Flossy. She was small, now, so small. When Sahara picked her up Celeste thought it was only bloody rags, the bandages that covered her wounds. She didn’t realise the deities had blessed her with a fae’s body, a dragon so useless to Myopia, she was dead to her. Her powers were gone, her mind still unchanged, but her body was whole.

And so now Flossy works for Celeste, polishing her telescope and cleaning her eyeglasses. She hides in her mane, away from the rest of the Tribe, who were convinced Flossy died that day. Myopia disappeared that night, but Celeste still knows she’s there. Every night Celeste turns around and looks over her shoulder, waiting for that shadow of hers to come near, for the eventual slash at her side. And Celeste will be ready. She drinks Sahara’s potions that taint her blood, however foul they may taste, and she covers her skin with oils, but she will be ready.
For when there is light, there is always darkness.

“The stars seem a little darker tonight”

Celeste narrowed her eyes, squinting at the same star. It flickered and danced, and seemed to move ever so slightly. It belonged to the constellation she had named ‘zeta-649’, but Flossy had nicknamed it 'The bowl’, due to the the way it seemed to hold 3 other stars. Out of habit, Celeste searched for the other stars. One…. Two…. Three? Where was the third one? Recalibrating herself to the first star, she started to count again.

There was definitely two stars there, not three. Flossy waddled up. Placing Celeste’s reading glasses at her feet, Flossy lowered her frills in concern. Celeste was too tall for the fae to see her expression as she gazed at the stars, but the map gripped tightly in Celeste’s hands hinted at her stress. Celeste was gifted with longsight, the ability to see incredibly long distances. It meant though, that she was essentially blind when confronted with anything up close. What that meant to flossy, was whatever Celeste was looking at, was hidden to her.

But Flossy tried anyway. Trying to match the angle of Celeste’s gaze, she looked up at the distant constellation. At this time of night, in this time of season, she should be looking at The Bowl. But where there were usually 6 stars holding 3 slightly coloured 'fruit’ stars… Wait. Flossy pulled the map from Celeste’s clutch, ripping it slightly. The motion caused the imperial to stir, moving her hand slowly. Patting the ground until she found the Flossy’s tail, she greeted the fae in a somber voice.

“Have you noticed anything tonight, Flossy?”

The fae nodded her head. Not that Celeste saw.

“Another one has changed.”

Opening up the map, Flossy spread it out on the ground and pulled out her quill. Dipping it in ink, she wrote in small, precise letters. Neat little drawings in Flossy’s style accompanied the words, documenting the latest change. Pulling back, she sighed. There *** no denying it. The map as now nearly all black, full of scribbles and edits.

The imperial spoke again.

“The stars seem a little darker tonight, Flossy.”

“I think that’s because there are nearly no stars left.”

As Flossy rushed off to tell someone, anyone about the foreboding news, Celeste noticed a struggle off in the distance. The horizon had been laced with a vignette of shadow every night now, and it was creeping closer. She watched a star’s struggle to stay bright as the creeping shadow engulfed it. But unlike the eclipses she was used to, the Star never shone again. Flossy hadn’t seen it yet, and from the letters she had received from the other astrologers, they hadn’t either. It was something Celeste would keep to herself.

Little did she know what her inaction would foretell.
