Wynona and Tzader eagerly awaited the hatching of their first clutch, and happily invited Wynona's parents from Amarayne to visit on the day they were supposed to hatch. When Shylock and Irine arrived, however, it was immediately clear something was wrong. Wynona had banished everyone from the nursery and would not come out. After summoning a healer, it was clear why. The whole nest had simply stopped moving, and the still eggs confirmed everyone's worst fears; the hatchlings did not survive. The clutch was opened by force and despite revival attempts the two sons and single daughter were stillborn...until, to everyone's shock, the daughter gasped and began to cry. The lone survivor was named Kokone, meaning heartbeat, and when she was old enough she went to live with her grandparents so that she could live close to the family.

How Kokone survived was a mystery for many years. In that time she made herself at home in Amarayne, dealing with the baggage of a harrowing start and trying to avoid a particular pest and wannabe ghost chaser, Tomoko. She divided her time between babysitting and laundry duty all the while not really noticing that nothing seemed to "stick" on her. Scrapes and bruises were gone in hours, and illnesses took a lot out of her but never lasted more than half a day. This incredible healing factor was just a blip on the radar until one day when she had to save Tomoko when the fae's wing was pinned underneath a falling rock on a cliff's edge. Kokone and Tomoko both went tumbling over when the rock unexpectedly slid, and though Kokone protected Tomoko with her body and saved her life, she broke her neck in the fall and died instantly. She woke up to a wailing Tomo and a slightly stiff neck. Tomoko's genuine reaction to seeing her die and reanimate made her from annoyance to ally, and the two kept it secret until they could learn more.

Not even she can tell when she first started seeing Tomoko as more than a friend. It was as much a shock to her as it was to everyone. It was years before she got up the nerve to admit that she was even somewhat maybe sort of in love with her, just a little. That was all Tomoko needed, and the two became an item though they have yet to become official mates. This is because they discovered that Kokone's ability actually burns up the soul to revive her, and while this energy does replenish slowly over time if it were all burnt up then Kokone's soul would cease to exist. Tomoko has assured her that she's not going anywhere despite this, and will become her mate as soon as they find a way to undo the strange magic that is using up Kokone's soul. Further complicating matters is that now the whole clan knows about her amazing ability, after Kokone was caught up in the slaughter of the imperial Mirrikh's siege on Amarayne and revived right in front of a stunned crowd.
