Biography
Hideau Hē-dā-ou (hee-day-ow) Occupation: Wizard, Spell-Sword Annoyingly Intelligent | Snarky | Persistent | Ornery | Unconventional |
Hideau hails from a clan of artists, creators and admirers of the infinite. Such a community of dragons resides near the great Observatory in the Starfall Isles. As a hatchling, Hideau shared his family's drive to discover, to uncover, to clear the mysteries still clouding dragon knowledge. Perhaps this is what led him to the Wild Oats settlement, as strange a place it is for a wizard. One early morning, a colorful Nocturne rode into town on a hulking, ambling Starbear, satchels stuffed to the brim with scrolls and loose leaves of parchment slung over his shoulder. He claimed to be in pursuit of a dragon called Esk. The townsfolk initially turned Hideau away, fearing that he may stir up trouble with the mysterious Esk. But after persistent convincing, the Nocturne was permitted to reside within the boundaries of the settlement and use it as a base for his studies. As of yet, Hideau has not divulged exactly what he is studying the Esk for, though when asked he will simply reply, "for science!" There have not been any reports of increased activity from Esk during Hideau's studies, but the Coatl clearly dislikes the wizard snooping around its territory. Then again, it dislikes any intruders at all, so its feelings towards Hideau are difficult to gauge. Skilled in the art of weapon-spell crafting, Hideau has been known to practice combat, sparring with Crane now and again. However, Hideau is clearly more interested in his observations of the Esk. Occasionally, Hideau will send letters off whenever the couriers pass through town. Like most other things of a private nature, he will not reveal what he is sending, though some suspect he is reporting his findings to his former clan. Due to his secrecy, he is mostly mistrusted within the clan, but most of the the folks at least attempt to act civil towards him. One resident in particular, Zhu Li is absolutely smitten with the Wizard. Partial to flashy colors and exuberant dragons, no one was surprised that Zhu Li fell for the Nocturne. Despite her advances, Hideau seems rather oblivious to the Fae. He sees the world through a scholar's lens and Zhu Li's affection is wasted on him. This isn't to say he neglects her on purpose, but he refuses to be distracted from his task, whatever it may be. As the dragons of Wild Oats grew to be more familiar with Hideau, it was discovered that he has an insatiable desire to solve problems and puzzles. It is speculated that this is why he followed Esk in the first place, as it is an anomalous dragon that the Nocturne is hellbent on studying. He also has the inability to let go of an idea once he decides it's interesting enough to devote his attention to. This has begun to affect the townsfolk, as he'll often convince unknowing dragons to become subjects in experiments.
"Think Dr. Gregory House, but in dragon-wizard form."
