River grew up on the northern-most side of the Sunbeam Ruins, close enough to the Viridian Labrinth that she could see it from across the water. Sometimes the fae would come across the divide and frolic in the sun-warm ruins. River found the fae when she was a hatchling wandering the forest, and at first they hid from her. But she was patient, bringing them gifts of fruits and sweet drinks, until they grew comfortable enough to reveal themselves to her.

"You aren't like the other Light dragons are you, the fae would whisper with voices like rustling leaves, you don't spend hours with your snout shoved in dusty scrolls, instead you pick flowers and climb trees."

They were right, River wasn't much of a reader, nor an archaeologist, but rather wanted to grow and heal. Lured by the fae's promises of teaching her these things, River followed them deeper into the woods. Before she could suspect she was lost she was already led far away from the Lightweaver's touch and into the faewilds of the Viridian Labyrinth. River despaired, alone and so far away from home. But she let the fairies teach her how to plant a garden, fish the creeks, and mend her wounds.

Years passed and she started to notice a hum around her, not quite the crackle of energy but something softer. It reminded her of of the warm sunny magic back in the Ruins, but more alive. If she concentrated on it, River could hear that it was a voice, or perhaps a song. Every day she would concentrate on it more and found that when she did, her garden burgeoned and her scrapes healed. Then the day came when it spoke to her.

"Came from the Ruins, didn't you? Led north by my servants?" If the fae spoke with shifting leaves, this voice was the deep groaning of the boughs of an old oak.

"But that was so long ago, you could have left if you wanted to. So why are you still here, if you don't belong here?" River was silent, breathless.

"You want to be an acolyte of Nature," the voice spoke for her, "and I'll grant you that. River, you've proved to me that you are one of my children at heart, and as my child, I will name you."

There was a pause, then, "River Runs North, you've come far and learned much. Find others like yourself and show them where their roots truly lie."

The forest around her creaked and cracked, and a path broke through. River Runs North followed it, out of the wilds, reborn.
